Steam really needs a meh/mid option for reviews.

It's not a bad game by any means, but it's really not as fun as the first game. Let me explain a bit:

1. It's not nearly as dark and grim as the first game. Makes sense since there's not a plague going around but it just doesn't have the same atmosphere or tone as the original game. Not a huge fan.

2. Story is mid. I couldn't really care less about the story of this game. The first had me invested throughout it even with the DLCs! I really don't know what this game is missing but I couldn't care less about the story here and to be honest I eventually started skipping dialogue just to get to the gameplay. Also WHY THE ♥♥♥♥ IS DELILAH BACK?! WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE DLC IN THE FIRST GAME IF THEY WERE JUST GOING TO BRING HER BACK?????

3. There's almost too much to do every mission. I feel like Dishonored 1 did missions better with there being less but still giving the player a big and interesting area to traverse/explore. The missions in 2 have a bunch of clutter in terms of items enemies and side quests and all to go through. Sure some people may like that but it really bogs down the game hitting every tiny thing. For a few missions I skipped getting bone charms and runes because I was just getting annoyed trying to figure out how to get myself to one specific corner of the maps.

4. I'm not a fan of the voice acting, at least on Corvo's part. I love Stephen Russell as a voice actor and he has amazing range(he did Nick Valentine AND Codsworth in Fallout 4 for gods sake) but his Garrett voice from the original Thief games is just tiring to listen to. Monotone and boring.

5. The bugs. Man oh man are there bugs aplenty. Sure I haven't hit anything game breaking so far but there's a bunch of small stuff like enemies automatically going into suspicion mode when you reload a save, bodies randomly getting detected when they're in places it wouldn't be possible to find, graphical glitches aaaaallll over the place like clipping issues. It all adds to making the game feel worse than the first by a mile.

Some things I do like are:
*The game looks good, I do wish it was still dark and depressing as the first, but some of the new areas are beautiful to be in.
*The gameplay can be just as satisfying as the original game.

Overall if you liked the first game 100% give IF the game is on sale. But I still think the first game and its DLC is an overall better and more satisfying experience to go through than its sequel...

EDIT: BUY AND PLAY THE FIRST GAME INSTEAD! God the sequel sucks, it's boring and there just too much ♥♥♥♥ going on in missions. The first game is better with a more realized environment and better story with even better atmosphere. They made Dishonored 2 too generic. If it's on sale then sure play it but it's full full of mehhhhh

I'll be honest I don't think I'll ever have the will or patience to finish it.

Edit Dec 13, 2024:
Yup to annoying to play through. Deleted it and I don't think I'll ever be back. Buy and play the first game, it's great.
