754 Hours played
As a person that loved FTL, this game hits those same notes for me but in a different setting. Players looking for something new but with a similar overall experience to that should check it out.

I kinda like CCG games really, but I'm not a big fan of getting wrecked by people with more skin in the game than me. So having a single player focused game with a roguelike reset mechanic at the end of each run suits me just fine. You can finish a successful run in 1-3 (or less even) hours but you'll find yourself trying again and again as it gets pretty addicting.

The game is all about weighing the values of different choices and making the best decisions for your current and future needs. This includes both how you build your deck and which path you take to reach the top of the spire. "Do I use my gold to remove this crappy card from my deck or buy this other card that I want?" "Do I want to risk another elite monster or do I go to this campsite to heal?" The game is a never-ending series of questions like that until you win or lose. Not every run will be a success, and sometimes the game will troll you, but it is a lot of fun.

I do wish there was more content, even if it was just another character or two, but another act would be pretty awesome as well. But, that said, I feel there is already plenty of value in the game with the current level of content. I've got over 40 hours and haven't reached the last set of unlocks for both characters. Because of this I can't quite comment on the Ascension mode yet.

I'd recommend you play this game if you aren't wanting any kind of real-time stress or pressure. Pour yourself a cup of coffee and sit back and click along making some decisions on your own time. Figuring out which cards work best with eachother and discovering viable builds is a fun mental exercise and when you finally get your first win your won't regret it.

Updates:
The new Daily Run is a great addition that helps extend the life of the game and give you something to do besides slamming into the difficulty barrier of the upper Ascension levels. The randomized rule tweaks each day are neat and can make for some really OP and fun builds.

A new character and a ton of events/cards/potions/relics have been added since this review, making this game an even better value than it already was. As highly recommended as ever.
