Ain't bad for an underrated fighting game!
Despite having the worst trailer ever, it’s actually a pretty fun and simple fighting game

Well, Phantom Breaker: Omnia is a fighting game, a simple one to be precise. It's like that Naruto series, where its fans keep denying that their game is just button-mashing—this game may have some button-mashing, but it's better, with more variety and tools than the Naruto games.

Before Street Fighter 6 fans idiotically claim their game invented modern controls, well, they’re wrong. It’s not, in fact, many indie games have done this, like Granblue and that fighting game with Fate art that I didn’t play (but you know which one I mean).

If you're looking for an in-depth fighting game like classic Street Fighter or any traditional 2D fighting game, this might not be for you. But if you're looking for an easy fighting game to play with friends and family, then Phantom Breaker: Omnia is the right game for you. It's simple, and once you know the basics of any 2D fighting game, overall I have no complaints.

As for the graphics, well, it's good but also kind of sucks. Why? For one, if you try the demo of this game, it looks like any anime fighting game with traditional drawn animation. But in the final game, it looks weird—literally, there are some characters who technically look like MMD gifs that feel out of place. I mean, the main characters look like they had more effort put into them, but the more you see of all the characters, the more you realize their quality downgraded from well-drawn 2D sprites to blurry sprites, then to these 3D-rendered sprites, almost like the sprite technique used in Donkey Kong.

As for the environment, I had no issues. The menu and other UI indicators were fine—just a weird call from the devs. I heard this game had many issues at launch and was delayed so many times that the game pretty much died at launch. Overall, it’s weird.

For multiplayer, yep, it’s dead—even at launch. Well, I’m not complaining about a dead game for no reason. I’m not the type to blame the devs for a dying multiplayer game like an idiot. But yeah, at least I got to play it locally with my friends and family.

Cᴏɴᴛʀᴏʟ

I’m not recommending playing this game with a keyboard. I mean, I know you’re a PC player—a broke one who can’t even afford a cheap $5 Chinese controller? Get a life, dude. Yeah, I use a D-input controller for this game, and it works fine.

According to HLTB user data, it would take about 5–6 hours to complete, which matches my own playtime. That’s also the point where I stopped and might come back to the game after backlogging it for quite some time. You might play more if you go through all the story modes and other modes like arcade or score attack, if you’re into that kind of stuff.

Overall, it’s not a long game, which might be an issue for some players. Unlike older fighting games—not like Street Fighter 6 or modern ones, but the classics—where you’d play arcade mode to unlock colors or extras, this game doesn’t do that. Everything is unlocked immediately, which kind of eliminates the purpose of modes like arcade and score attack. I would’ve loved color unlockables through those modes, but it is what it is.

Story? I’ll be damned—it sucks. It’s just some kawaii girl who suddenly gets visited by an old man and got superpower, Since the creators of this game are probably old guys, typical. Yeah, it’s that kind of anime cliché nonsense. And honestly, this kind of stuff still happens in modern games—it’s Author wet dreams.

And no, it’s not worth it. I almost had a heart attack playing story mode because of how cliché it was, im a veteran weeb and this ♥♥♥♥ wont sell my degenerate heart anymore. On top of that, it’s a visual novel. You know what to expect from that category. reading the same static sprite over and over—not my thing.

Yeah, if you love the soundtrack. Also, it’s not like it’s owned by Capcom, who would sell every character—that’s a big plus.

On another note, I wish the devs would update the art style to something more than using Clannad like art style. Look at what Guilty Gear did—it adapted with the times, evolving its art style into something modern and attention-grabbing. But Phantom Breaker? It doesn’t really do much to stand out, unless you’re trying to appeal to Touhou fans. And even then, let’s be real—they don’t play much outside of Touhou anyway, they need bath, so... yeah.
