All of the fun and joy of the League of Legends universe, with none of the toxic players. 10/10, Ruin that King

Not much needs to be said honestly.

This game was nominated in MULTIPLE 2020 VGA categories for a reason.

EVERYTHING about this game screams passion, love, and is just gorgeous. It's fun, story is great, characters are cool, art is nice, the soundtrack slaps. This game is the embodiment of 10/10. If you don't have it yet, what are you waiting for? It's just good.

I didn't play MKX, but I did play MK9. It's sad to see some of my favorites not in the game, like Ermac and Reptile, but the cast in this game is still pretty good. Definitely downsized from X as well. However, if you can look past the smaller roster, the gameplay is great. A little slow for my tastes as someone plays a lot of anime fighting games, but it's not bad. This is VERY NEUTRAL FOCUSED. If you don't know what that means, you're going to want to learn fast if you want to win games. Krypt progression has mostly been fixed. There are still some tweaks here and there that I think could push it to be better than it already is. Towers of Time being pulled back make them much more beatable, but if you're only looking specific characters, outside of summoned towers and character specific towers, it can be hard to find gear for them.
That leads me to gear. It's all for customization so it isn't a big deal imo that it's mostly all locked behind story mode, AI battles, Krypt, and Towers of Time. However, it's near impossible to get all the unlocks for every character in a reasonable amount of time. With no guarantee on what Towers will show up, RNG from Krypt boxes and AI battle rewards, good luck getting things for your mains. Some of the gear does look great though, and due to it being cosmetic only, I can't say that this really hinders the game in any meaningful way.
Last, move set, or variations, or whatever we're calling them. With 2 tournament variations for Ranked/Tournament play, some of them are clearly better than others. Some just don't matter what you pick, because the base moveset is strong enough to carry either (Sub-Zero). With custom sets, however. The game becomes even more insane. Some characters get some really strong combo potential from their moves. Noob Saibot is one of these characters, who easily doubles his combo damage, just by having 1 move in his variation.
This is probably the best Mortal Kombat has been in a long time. I'd say totally worth it, and with DLC fighters coming out soon, it's only going to get better.

I am rewriting this review that I have much more experience in the game, and have even reached the ranked SSJ3 on the ranked ladder, and played in a tournament since this came out.

To start off, despite having a few fighting games between all my systems, I've never really be that great at them. I just don't have much of a patience for sitting down to learn the combos, and end up being terrible because it. But with this game, it was never a problem for me. I don't know why, maybe it's because it's Dragon Ball, and I grew up with most of the cast, and love Team Four Star. It just clicked with me.

That being said, this game is easily 10/10. It has very solid 3v3 fighting game mechanics similar to, but not as broken as, UMvC3. The game is extremely easy to pick up, and is very newbie friendly. I don't think I'd ever be able to climb as high as I have in any other fighting game. This game is the perfect balance between "I have no idea what I'm doing" and "esports level plays." It's fast paced, Dragon Ball action, with the perfect look for a Dragon Ball game. While it isn't quite a 100% recreation of the Dragon Ball fights in the anime, it is still the most fun I've had in both a fighting game, and in a Dragon Ball game. Nothing has topped this to this date, and I this game is a solid addition to any fighting game collection anyone could have, and probably won't disapear until a sequal comes out.

EDIT: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! LET'S GO BABY, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING, THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!! (Rollback is finally coming!!!!!)

If you haven't played this game, you should. It is worth the money. There are literally 2 seperate DLCs that were released completely free, and are more than just a few extra levels. They're basically 2 entirely new games.

Aside from that, this is just such a great game. Amazing soundtrack, near-perfect level designs, and its just fun. Its a super fun platformer.

I've noticed the majority of the reviews are hating on the AI, and not liking the art style. While I have to say, personally, I like the art style, I get it isn't for everyone. Especially since it's a lot more cartoony compared to the other games. But, I'll start with my thoughts, then adress the AI complaints.

~~Pros~~
-Districts add a nice micro-manage to the game, with series benifits when maximized.
-Ramped up barbs make the early game much better in my opinion
-The new policy system is much better
-Tech tree is better
-Reduction of wonder powers helped with balance in both mid and early game
-Religion Victory, making religion semi-viable
-The art style is nice, in my opinion
-Penalties for going to war
-The housing system helps keep extreme agression at bay (I've always been more of a tall player anyways, so I don't mind the more restricted city building)
-The seperation of leader and country bonuses is very nice

~~Cons~~
-Religion is still pretty much useless. However, if 1 player decides to focus on it, then others are forced to in order to not lose, which is nice
-Learning curve is much steeper in this game (although, this is not a bad thing. It just means newer players are going to struggle more)
-Penalties for war are very harsh, and often shut down the losing member(s) of the war
-Diplomicy is fairly weak. There's not a world congress, however, this has been adressed by the devs. They're waiting to see how things develop in the games playerbase, to see how they want to gear congress
-Ramped up barbarians can be extremely punishing if you aren't prepared
-The housing system is also very limiting (also not a bad thing. However, due to the map generations, sometimes you end up with terrible cities, because you needed a resource, that you cant have access to near a mountain, river, or coastline.)

Okay. For the most part, I feel those are all pretty straight forward. As for background on me, I have a few hundred hours in Civ V, and have looked a lot into this game, beyond just the 30+ hours I have in it.

As for the AI problems. Yes, I will agree that the AI is terrible in this game. However, the AI was terrible in Beyond Earth and Civ V. Even with all 3 expansions in Civ V, the AI is pretty trash. They're pushovers that declare war on you, for little to no reason. The AI has never been good. I understand everyone is upset that the AI is bad, but it's always been bad. Play this game with friends, and you have an entirely different experience. Players will always beat AIs in these kinds of games for enjoyability. Trust me.

This game isn't bad by any means. I personally think it's a step up from Civ V, especially now that there have been enough updates to bring some of the basic functions back (like city naming, queues, etc.).

Mid game got sped up by quite a lot, Late game toned down, and Early game is much cleaner, in my opinion. Now we don't have 3 or 4 eras of mid game, which to some might feel weird, but I like the quicker feel of the game.

All in all, this is still a pretty good game. It isn't quite to level as full expansion Civ V, but it's on the path to it. It has a lot of neat features, and once you've learned how to utilize them, it works out to be a very fun game.

Early Access Review
This game. Where to begin.

Overall:
To start, the game is fairly simple and easy to pick up (Controller is recommended). It has a massive SSB feel, with a free-flow combo system, and characters that are aren't too complex. This game is a lot of fun, is already building a competative scene quickly, and plays really closely to Melee.

Pros:
-Graphically, is really great
-Easy to learn
-Updates are pretty often (about once a month/other month)
-Controls are tight and feel great (on a controller at least. Never played it with a keyboad to be honest)
-Online isn't all that laggy (in my experience with it)
-Characters are fairly simple and easy to pick up and learn to fight against
-Wavedashing
-Extremely fun

Cons:
-Characters are pretty 1-demensional
-While being easy isn't bad, it almost feels too easy
-Stages are either extremely different, or essentialy the same one. This is only an issue because some of the stages feel too small. This is more of a preference thing. Diverse stages in a fighting is uncommon, and not a real issue. It's more the size, which only one, maybe two stages fall under being too small.

Conclusion:
Trust me. This game is worth the $15. I've played a lot of fighting games, and most of them are fairly complex, and require a lot of practice to get with. This one isn't like that. It's really easy to learn, has local and online multiplayer, plays great, controlls easily, looks really good, and sounds great. BUY THIS IF YOU LIKE SMASH BROS!

Probably the coolest Turn-Based Strategy game I've played. Think of Civilizations, with a lot more in-depth gameplay. There isn't anything I don't like in this game. It's fun, has a lot of options for victory paths, and unit customization is amazing. Love this game.
