First Impressions:
-Compared to the first game, this one is very Zen. There's no better word to describe it. UI, pacing, and the great music make it a laid-back joy to play.

-It's more complicated.
-->But the tutorial is really well done, so the learning curve isn't so bad. (Some systems are a little opaque even after the tutorial. You'd do well to look up how manpower works as a system)

-Combat was simplified a bit, as now instead of choosing 3 stratagems throughout the battle, you choose one at the beginning that has 3 phases built in. Not sure if it's an improvement just yet. (Instead of 3 time phases you now split your fleet into 3 detachments for battle, who travel the battlefield in different ways. It works, and makes large fleet combats last several turns. I like it overall.)

-The stories of the factions and central quest lines are exactly in line with other Endless games.

-For new players to the series, you'll find a faction to fit any playstyle.
-->But only one faction will fill that slot. Custom factions aren't quite as malleable as other games of this genre and feel 'hard-coded'. (That said, I've already made slightly different versions of the major factions to suit my playstyle. In this regard, it works great.)

-I wish there were a few more hotkeys/quick references to ease use of the camera, i.e. Stellaris or Sins.

-Peaceful vs. Aggressive playstyles do seem more balanced than similar titles. Alliance-building is not the only way to win. (Alliances are a bit strange in this. AI allies will declare wars and drag the alliance in, add new members, accept peace agreements. These decisions will affect you, but you have no input. Honestly kind of annoying to deal with when an alliance member you never invited accepts peace with a race you're invading.)

Highly recommended, and unexpectedly relaxing. (Still relaxing, still recommended.)

(Updated, edits added in parentheses.)

As you might expect from Early Access, a lot of mid-game content is missing. Even then, the game is tons of fun if you're willing to use a mic and learn how the mechanics work. My VR experience with the game was extremely poor, but considering the base game development is ongoing, I shouldn't have expected much from it. The base game more than makes up for it.

Ship to ship combat is always nerve-wracking and dangerous, guaranteed death for the unwary.

Piracy and stealth mechanics have a neat, submarine-warfare feel to them.

Ship boarding is kinda wonky and twitch-shootery, to be honest, but is an important part of the game and feels cool when you succeed.

Planetary exploration is not always great, but again, that's a feature that just takes a lot of dev time to implement different biomes, decorate interiors, and write interesting stories for. What they have done, is done very well. Several 'landmarks' of the galaxy are huge, expansive and interesting levels worth exploring, so they clearly have the right idea on how to do it. Protip: lots of hidden loot, too.

Probably the best part of the game, though, is taking the opportunity to refer to all of your friends as Mr. Seriously. Try it.

About 5 hours in, and I gotta say Prey deserves all the hype it got so far. It combines the run-hide-fight theme of Alien Isolation with the freeform exploration and biomods of Deus Ex Invisible War; both games that have a very dear place in my heart.

Progression of equipmnent and enemies feels right, once you think you've gotten used to the gameplay you find something new. You never feel superior to the enemies, yet you always have equipment enough to deal with them. Prey strikes a really good balance with powerful enemies and non-standard weaponry that makes you think and adapt in a way that makes you feel accomplished. It just works well. That, and the way you customize abilities and equipment means everything is a trade-off. There's no 'easy' or 'wrong' way to build yourself up.

The Invisible War nostalgia is especially strong. If you were a fan of IW then you will certainly enjoy Prey. Even if not, I strongly recommend the game. It's exciting, it's well made, and it's got a story that will have you actually reading all those little scattered journals and notes.

I'm flabbergasted that I hadn't reviewed the game up til now. It's a masterfully made objective horde shooter in the vein of Killing Floor, as well as a difficult but endearing stealth tactics game (whatever your druthers).

The big draw, though, is the free VR beta. I gotta say, it's way more fun than the base game (which is still great) and is probably the best VR game available. Period. Bar none. It presents an entirely new difficulty curve which feels less twitchy and more rewarding, and every feature of the game, including stealth, translates remarkably well to VR. What Bethesda failed to do with fallout (and charged 60 bucks for), PD2 does well, for free. If that's where all our DLC dollars went, I ain't even mad.

Best played with friends, but making them ingame (mainly within the VR community since it's a smaller and generally older crowd) is easy.

Honestly, I wouldn't buy it yet. All the blurriness fixes do is reveal a game that is unoptimized, with all the same FPS problems that it had on release years ago; except in VR, FPS loss is traumatic instead of annoying. I'll fix the review when they fix the game (and I hope they do).

I love Fallout and knew what I was getting into, so I don't really regret getting it yet. If you aren't a huge fan, though, beta-testing a $60 game is not worth your money or time when even PD2 did better for free.

As it stands, VATS is 90% unusable. It's so finnicky and bugged that it mostly cycles through every body part you could be pointing at and chooses one at random when you fire. You can't pet Dogmeat. Textures, shadows, and lights all flicker on and off as you watch, because the engine is freaking out that you're wearing a VR set and doesn't know what to render. Why can't you pet dogmeat? Sights and aiming either don't work or aren't implemented yet. The HUD is very well done, but then the power armour HUD uses none of the same mechanics and may only be an alpha implementation.

It feels like a real hackjob Christmas release, because it probably is. You may very well enjoy it, but it mostly makes me want to reinstall the original and watch for updates.

Everything that made the series great lives on, and Dom5 contains a whole slew of quality-of-life improvements over its predecessors. If you're a fan of the series and don't own this, you've done yourself a disservice.

If this is your first time hearing about Dominions, check it out on youtube or the wiki. There's entirely too much information to include here. Just know ahead of time that you may never know all there is to know about this game, there is a wonderful modding community, and yes it will be worth it.

Great fun in coop. Dark, spooky atmosphere. Development is just one guy, but he is very responsive to feedback and legitimately seems to give a ♥♥♥♥ about the game. All pluses in my book. I look forward to future updates, and even as it is the game is well worth supporting.

Edit: As a heads-up, the tutorial is in no way indicative of the quality of the game. Just get through it. You can fix the control scheme after that.

Worth the money, worth the time, worth the minimum required characters for a review. SUPERHOT translates extraordinarily well to VR.

Not worth the $20. The unit roster for the wood elves is great, and they're fun to play as in battles. On the other hand the mini campaign is a joke and every play-through of the faction will be the exact same on the grand campaign/ME. You will always have the same progression, the same enemies, and the same territory. The only way to play is to confederate the other wood elves to unlock all techs/buildings. You'll do that every single time without issue, and then you're an absolute world power and have nothing left to accomplish.

It's worth it, but only on sale. As much fun as they are, wood elves have zero replay value.

Not nearly worth the $20 price tag. Get it for half price or less, and even then the faction itself just isn't much fun to play. They're a weaker Chaos horde with Greenskin Waaghs, and that's about it.
