Not worth the price at 50% off. No attempt at balance. No attempt at AI. DLC factions with sub-DLC units. Utterly shallow gameplay that tries to use constant freespawn barbarian units to extend game length. Avoid it.

BLUF: Outstanding game. Combat is fatal and decisive. Simple on the surface, but offers great depth and challenge long-term. Doesn't have any real tutorial, so read a newbie FAQ and save yourself a lot of frustration.
---
Battle Bros has the same general feel as Mount & Blade, but the smaller scale and level of detail make it much more intense. Even the "Beginner" difficulty is not "Easy" so expect to take casualties in battle. You will frequently replay fights, often more than once, in order to adapt to new monsters or stronger foes. Just remember that even mediocre armor is ~300 gold, while fresh recruits are ~100 gold. Play accordingly.

Graphics are simple and effective. The gameplay loop is solid, and does a good job of never letting you get too rich or too safe. Enemies feel like a genuine threat. Victories feel earned. The world generation makes new playthroughs feel different, and also offers the map seed to share or reuse.

Combat is satisfying. The game leans into remarkably few "fantasy combat" tropes, so weapons and armor generally look and perform as they should. Spears are cheap and highly effective. Shield walls are strong. Two handed weapons can fell a man in one good hit (including yours). Character traits/perks are varied and impactful.

Despite the simplicity of being a hex grid battle simulator, the game has a lot to offer, even before you consider the DLC content they've put out since release. If you've bothered reading this far, you should probably just get it and see for yourself.

As popular as it is, it's surprisingly fun. Mainly the killing people, but I guess surviving is okay.

This DLC offers some amazing content, but there are enough problems with the execution that I just can't give it the thumbs up. Map design and environmental models aside, the level of quality is lower than is reasonable for this kind of release, and lower than many of the community-made scenarios and content packs.

Mines and punji traps are very common, and well disguised. This is really cool, and makes you constantly shift your attention between the treeline ahead and the ground at your feet. It gets frustrating, though, when the tripwires are physically below ground level and impossible to see. This happens frequently, especially inside the VC tunnels. Players attempting to plant mines on terrain will run into that same ground clipping issue, often causing planted ordnance to just explode at your feet the moment you set it down. This is compounded by mines being at the top of the mouse-wheel menu, causing frequent accidental mining when other options flicker in and out. Medics carrying mines have a 1/10 chance of booby-trapping a casualty instead of treating them.

There is a solid arsenal of thematic weapons, including sawed-off variants for a few, but it's hard to compliment when every single one of these was already implemented in Unsung mod, with higher quality skins and sounds.

The sound environment in the DLC is also conspicuously bad. If the enemy is 100m away you can hear them speak as if they were leaning over your shoulder, but their gunshots sound muffled and distant. This should be a minor defect, but causes constant problems when visibility is so restricted. Distant, echoing gunshots are actually enemies opening up a close ambush within hand grenade range. The patrol you hear a few meters ahead is actually on the other side of that hill, over a cliff.

The missions so far are good, and play a lot like Dynamic Recon Ops, but you need a minimum team of 4+ players if you want to enjoy them. You can still play them with less, since you can respawn at your team after a very short cooldown, but it takes a lot out of the mission when you see 10 dead versions of yourselves at the LZ defense point. If you do have the players, though, expect predictably intense gunfights at extractions, frequent small enemy patrols to overcome, and the ever-looming threat of tracker patrols behind.

I expect the new assets to be integrated into many future Vietnam era missions, and the map to be used frequently as well. If you're a fan of Vietnam missions this DLC will be a must-have. Just know ahead of time that most of this content isn't up to standard. It's frustratingly close to being great, but it just isn't there.

TL;DR
It's a Weird West monster-hunting Tarkov, but better. It's a PvP game with strong PvE elements. It's really, really good.

Hunt is my standout favorite among the battle arena style games. Instead of hunting for weapons and loot like Tarkov or a Battle Royale game, your team's goal is to go to points of interest on the map and find clues as to the boss monster's location, narrowing down zones of the map not by magic death walls, but by irrelevance. Equipment management is minimal, and handled outside the match. While the guns and gear are cool, you won't have to waste any time changing out bolts and triggers or performing gun maintenance.

Hunt is primarily a PvP game, but you could also explore those irrelevant map zones, do some PvE, and then egress without ever chasing the boss if you were so inclined. I find the game well balanced, and in a very organic way. Aggressive assaults work fine, and reward more classic FPS skills while broadcasting your location with gunshots and flocks of startled birds. A more tactical, stealthy approach will minimize risk and conceal your position, but it will take you longer to navigate the map and find clues to the target location. Upgrading your character after successful hunts is cool, and some of the skills are powerful buffs to stealth or gunplay, but none of them will stop a well-placed pistol round from ending your hunter's career. Like it or not, everyone and everything is disposable.

A special mention to the game's art style, as well. Premium skins (bought with cash conversion or the steady trickle of blood bonds ingame) look really good without breaking the game's theme. The icons and drawings for skills and AAR cards are delightfully esoteric and vaguely unsettling, skirting that fine line of arcane body horror without the gauche or gore.

The core game loop is exciting, even without the pull of loot zones in the map. You can go in light and hope to pick up better guns from dead players, but that's not the point really. The flow of ingame currency feels appropriate, and even with the majority of my runs ending in death I don't see the risk of running out of cash. The cheapest starter guns are still deadly effective, so while more expensive weapons will provide strong advantages, they are never insurmountable ones.

Oh, and the monsters are cool. They're all manageable enough and act more as environmental hazards, but if you ignore them or get too complacent they will tear you apart.

My playgroup has experienced some issues with the game freezing and/or dropping frames, most likely due to older GPUs (above minimum spec but below recommended). These do cause problems ingame, including player deaths. I doubt most updated rigs will experience these issues, and I still wholeheartedly recommend the game.

Definitely buggy, in a 'Skyrim-at-launch' way. Only encountered one bug that forced me to reload a save, though, when my camera detached from my model after a cutscene.

I want to say the combat is kind of nondescript, but I constantly seek out the next big fight. I want to say the hacking is kind of basic, but I constantly prioritize expanding my deck and my programs.
The loot treadmill is a little silly sometimes; all clothes have an armor value and you can find basketball shorts with triple the armor of your mil-tech fatigues.
They've done a great job of incorporating your character's stats and backgrounds into your interactions with the NPCs, and to a more limited extent with the environments as well.

But I think the deciding factor in my "Very Much Recommended" is that this game is immersive in a way you can't easily define. Whenever I check the time it's 1-2 hours later than I expected. Maybe it's the city environments or the world building, but Cyberpunk 2077 is genuine 100% pure escapism.

At least until you get the bug where your peepee pokes through your pants.

Still great otherwise.

Good spooky fun. While clearly developed as a VR-First title, it's still fine on a monitor.

It's got a couple indie-game issues (like a limited options menu, or audio balance being way off for in-game comms), but is also surprisingly polished in most other aspects. The voice inputs are a novel concept, and adds something to the game even with how clunky speech recognition can be. Calling out to the spirits, asking for signs, "close the door," "turn on the light," these things add a level of interactivity that helps you suspend disbelief and get into the game.

I can see an issue with a lack of late-game content, but that's also the point of early access. The content you get right now is well worth their asking price.

Does what it says on the tin: TTS provides all the tools you need to play most anything that's ever been put on a table.

Within that framework, the community continues to produce an astounding amount of content, with constant improvements in scripting and custom tools. I've spent 600+ hours in TTS playing who knows how many games, and I could spend 600 more without seeing even 50% of everything that's available.

If you have any doubt that TTS is worth it, just take a second to search its workshop. Whatever you're looking for, I bet you find it there.

I have very fond memories of this game, and they were better left that way. After all the troubleshooting to make it run on a modern system, the reality is an old game that had issues with pacing and rudimentary controls. Every action feels delayed and disconnected in the face of an AI that's roided out on 20 years of CPU speed increases.

We can only hope for a remake, unlikely as it is.

TLDR: It's good. It can be overly accessible. It's not intended for solo play.

As a first note, I converted my account from Battle net, so the new players saying that the leveling and progression are broken could be totally correct.

As a returning player, though, I was stunned. I expected to be playing the same game but on Steam, and instead I saw improvements in every category. I always enjoyed D2, but this is the first time it actually feels like a PC game instead of a console port.

The GUI was brought up to PC gaming standards. Graphics are a little better tuned. There are no more hidden stats, and now stats tell you exactly what they do. Instead of the random-roll loot drops, it looks like the new loot is modular and can be customized, removing a huge amount of the grind.

Overall, the graphics look good, the game runs well, and the gunplay is varied and satisfying. It's a good game for coop with your friends. Enemies get a little repetitive, but the game gives a lot of incentives to visit different zones and play different game modes. It helps to keep you from burning out. The only downside to that is that sometimes you're forced to play PvP to complete a bounty or progress a quest.

The best comparison I have for D2's design philosophy and progression is Diablo 3. Both are designed to be drop-in drop-out pastimes, a little shallow but very accessible. Your individual gear is mostly unimportant until you hit max level, since it all just feeds in to your average character score. You can unlock all possible skills and builds with little effort, and switch between them on the fly. There's no way to screw up a character build. Once you collect a rare item it's always available to be re-crafted later, so even recycling your god-tier loot isn't a game ender.

Edit: The big difference is that towards the end game, solo play is not viable. If you don't have at least a few friends at your level, many raid features will be unplayable, since any death is a "full team wipe" and will reset your progress.

That kind of "no risk, all reward" game design can be a turn off, and I'm not a fan of Diablo 3 because of it. Still, it works out in Destiny 2. Once you reach end game content, builds and gear choice get a lot more interesting. The core gameplay is fun, and that goes a long way to carry you through.
