How the hell did this game get worse in the two years since I played it?

From what I've played it's by far the most functional Owlcat game on launch. That said I can't really recommend it due to painful animation lock in combat. Combat is 3 or 4 times slower than it should be because when you use an ability you're stuck in a lengthy animation while the character slowly peeks out of cover, does something, then slowly tucks back into cover. I can't handle half my squad needing to cast like 5 different abilities every turn. Momentuming with SoB and then being forced to watch her slowly tbag for the next minute while she fires a bunch of single shots does not spark joy either. You *need* to be able to continue to use abilities while the prior one goes off. Operators (which will make up half your party for the first bit of the game) will be casting the same 4 or 5 moves *every* turn, and it's at the point where I just skip their turn after they shoot. Historically in a little bit this will be a hearty recommendation, but ATM unless you deeply love watching the same janky animation for hours, I can't recommend this one.

I actually can't believe that this game is so highly rated. It's worse than AI1 in almost every way and is the worst Uchikoshi game I've ever played. It feels like he felt forced to have a twist, because they're all irrelevant to the story. Every time the game tries to be serious it falls flat on its face. I thought I didn't like AI1 that much but I was PRAYING for Date back so I could have some less painful dialogue. The only thing this game has done successfully is make me like AI1 more in comparison.

I've actually mutated this review into a positive one, you just can't see it.

The best battle royal/extraction shooter I've ever played and the only one I play. The learning curve is more of a cliff but the game is truly worth it, and it is lovely with friends and still fun alone as long as you don't mind keeping your heartrate up.

Abandoned and unfinished. Some baffling choices. Modders might fix it some day but truthfully you'd probably be better of with almost any other XCOM or XCOM-like.

This is one of the most impressive games ever made. The quality of the content and the amount of it makes it 100% worth the asking price, even with the somewhat jank PC port. Do yourself a favor and try this game. It isn't perfect, but it is a masterpiece.
