Starting with the elephant in the room: Yes, this is hard. But when you finish this DLC you will feel unstoppable. Compared to the base game it is stupidly hard and one could argue it's also borderline unfair at times, but this DLC will kick you, spit on you and make you an absolute god at this game.

When I completed the base game I ignored a lot of the game's more advanced mechanics like quick-switching between weapons while they reset, keeping the last enemy alive to farm armor and ammo before the next wave, don't rush to get every single quick-kill the second you see an enemy flash and learning what is the usage of each individual weapon (for example: why I shouldn't use the minigun against a marauder and so on). This DLC taught me all of that, and I can confidently say it made me enjoy Doom Eternal even more, and showed me a level of depth I thought didn't even exist.

So... yeah. If you're looking to get your Doom skills to the next level, this is absolutely worth it. And if you're already good at this game, think of it as extra content. The maps look good and have interesting arenas, so there's that too.

This game legit surprised me.

It's incredibly fun and immersive, and even the combat (which is the part that gets the most ♥♥♥♥) is surprisingly satisfying. It's not even as hard as people are saying, I only watched a 5 minute video on YouTube and now I'm wiping the floor with the AI's ass. For me this game even rivals Skyrim and The Witcher 3, it's a true RPG at heart and it has a lot of soul.

I hope to see more games from this developer, they are incredibly talented.

Most of the people giving out negative reviews have no clue what they're talking about.

You are an archer in a world of titans, and each of them has different skills, shapes and moves. Your job is to learn what makes them unique and use that to your advantage. This game is about learning, improving your skills and waiting for the perfect shot.

If you are not willing to learn, you WILL die. If you are not willing to improve your shooting skills, you WILL die. If you don't want to dive deep into a game that is easy to learn and hard to master, you WILL die. If you panic, you WILL die. Most negative reviews here are from people that fail to understand one or all of the above, and that's why this game is criminally underrated.

As a person that loves the souls games I enjoyed this game a lot, and it's definitely worth the money if you're into dark souls. Just a piece of advice: bring your gamepad, or you'll suffer.

This was my first FromSoftware game. Before going into it, I always thought Dark Souls was a franchise for people who had extreme amounts of patience and will power, but after just a few hours into the game, I could see how my thoughts couldn't be farther from the truth.

This is not a game only for people with extreme reflexes, perfect eyesight and inhuman reaction times, but it's a game for people who are willing to learn from the it and adapt. Hell, I don't even have good reflexes and I was able to play it. If this is your first time playing Dark Souls, this is absolutely a good place to start.

If you are having doubts about picking it up because of what you hear about difficulty, don't worry, it's not as hard as game journalists and other people make it to be. It can be hard, but only if you are not willing to adapt and learn from your mistakes.

Praise the Sun!

Content
To start off, I want to say I absolutely love this franchise. After this one, I can say that I've played all Resident Evils from 1 to 6, even the mess that was Operation Racoon City, so I am indeed a fan.

If you want to buy this because you liked RE2 Remake, I'm here to tell you that this game is not like it, in any way. I have almost 60 hours of RE2 playtime and unlocked every achievement, even going as far as beating the game without using recovery items and the inventory box, so yeah, you could say I like RE2 a lot. And that's why I bought this game, because I thought it would at least be just as good, but it was NOT.

It seems like they took literally every good thing that RE2 has and toned it down. This includes even playtime. I beat this game on hardcore in just a little over 7 hours, and this game doesn't feature a challenge mode like RE2 and doesn't have a second campaign. It does have unlockables and challenges, but nothing else. All you get is Jill's original campaign to play, so at least it must be deserving of an Oscar, right? No!

Story

There's nothing special about it, it's the regular Resident Evil story. It's not the best, but it's still way better than RE5 and RE6, though.

Jill and Carlos are well developed, and so is the villain. I never felt like the characters were shallow, and they actually have believable reasons to do what they're doing. It's not a The Last of Us by any means, but it's still very enjoyable.

Music

Audiowork in a game is important, and unfortunately this game missed it by a long shot, because all(and I mean ALL) high points of the game had a very weak music choice, and this spoiled the best fights. When you're fighting Nemesis, the game decides to play a soft, calming song for some reason (???), and it absolutely takes away the epicness that was supposed to come with the fight. What's more fascinating is that they went the complete opposite direction with RE2, where the songs were absolute bangers and gave you a rush during every boss fight, which is the right choice. When you're exploring a dark place and are expecting zombies, the game plays a very unsettling music that fits the moment very well, but it drops the ball HARD during the boss fights. It's a shame, because the boss fights were very good in my opinion, and the music spoiled all of them.

Gameplay

The gameplay is the same as RE2's with some minor tweaks. Now you have an unlimited knife and you can't use it to cancel zombie grabs, but you do have a dodge button. if you time it right before a zombie grabs you, Jill rolls to the side and the games goes on slow motion, allowing you to hit him with a critical shot if you choose to do so. I didn't dislike it, I feel like it's good to have some change to the gameplay, but I'm not exactly crazy about it. It's ok.

The zombies are also more well-balanced. They're not the bullet sponges anymore like in RE2, and it actually feels like you are doing damage to them when you shoot. Enemy variety didn't improve a lot, tho. You still only have regular zombie, stronger zombie and weird-big-zombie-thing

Problems

There was only one problem I encountered, and it's beyond me to know why the hell CAPCOM released the game without fixing this. During one of your fights with Nemesis, he has one specific attack that he transforms his arm into a whip and starts swinging it around. If you fail to get enough distance and dodge, he will hit you and get you stuck in a stun-lock until you die. Jill takes YEARS to get up after being hit, and it's more than enough time for Nemesis to combo you to oblivion before you can even heal. I died in this fight with Nemesis more than the entirety of the rest of the game, only because of this move. By the time I managed to finally beat Nemesis, I had died TWENTY FIVE times, and I was almost losing my mind. I don't have a clue how CAPCOM left this go unnoticed, because it's game breaking.

I also have a small nitpick. I know RE is not supposed to be realistic and everything, but the direction they took with RE2 gave me the idea that they were going to show at least some realism. For example: in RE2, Tyrant has a move where he impales Leon with his arm, and this is an insta-kill, and you can understand how that would kill Leon. In this game, Jill can get a meteor to her face and she would just get up normally like nothing happened. Nemesis here has a move where he just chews Jill's intestines for a solid 3 seconds and launches her at MACH 5 to the side, and you'd think that it's an insta-kill, but it's not. Look, I know it's a game and all, but when you're hit with such a move and don't die, this breaks the immersion completely.

Is it worth it?

This is one of the games that deserve a "maybe", but unfortunately Steam doesn't have these.

You should buy it, but not for the current price. If you can get it for 60% off or more on a sale, go for it! Don't get me wrong, the game is not bad. Far from it. I had a blast for the most of my 7 hours, but the disappointment was huge, especially after I liked RE2 so much.

I'm not recommending it simply because the biggest reason that makes it worth buying is when it's on a sale. I hope CAPCOM doesn't do the same to the inevitable RE4 Remake they're making.

Edit: After playing RE 3 Classic on an emulator, I can confidently say that this game is whole light-years below the original. Go download a PS1 emulator and play RE3 Classic that you'll have way more fun with it than with this game

I bought this just to downvote.

This content should be in the base game, not as paid DLC. I sincerely hope CAPCOM learns from their mistake and don't repeat it when they eventually release Resident Evil 4 Remake

Although this is harder than the base game, it can still be beaten easily if you have 2 brain cells and are able to maintain a basic combo

For some bizarre reason, I can't hate this game.

Playing it on keyboard+mouse is so bad that it will drive you INSANE (if you have a controller, JUST USE IT). The cutscenes are locked at 30 FPS and they will look very sluggish on a modern monitor. There is a boss fight that is completely bugged on coop mode and the only way to progress is by using a RPG. The enemy AI is one of the worst that I've ever seen; Enemies miss attacks they shouldn't, their pathfinding is bad, and they get stuck a LOT. The story is terrible and has a laughable plot. The villain in this game is the perfect description of a Bond villain.

This is like a wannabe discount version of RE4, because it is worse in every possible way, but I still like it. Even with all of that, it's a fun game for you to play with a friend. I just finished playing it with a friend on discord, and we had a fun time laughing at the game, the plot and how silly everything is. If you don't take it too seriously, this is a very fun coop game!

Imho, the only real problem is that it feels very short if you're playing in 3-4 hours sessions. I cleared it in 10 hours on my first playthrough, and it felt really short for some reason. There is not much replay value apart from getting all achievements and unlockables, but I think it's worth replaying with a friend if you both feel like it.

PS: This game still has legacy problems because of GFWL. To solve them, I simply followed this guide: https://steamproxy.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=773388188

If you're playing on Linux, like I am, you need to follow this one: https://steamproxy.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1760498189

Surely, this is the best of the Resident Evil remakes in Steam. The work put into it is amazing, and so is the devs' attention to detail. To capture the real survival-horror feeling, players should dive head-first in the hardcore difficulty. I first played it in the normal difficulty, and it is way too easy to stock up on ammo and health items. To get the most out of the experience, you can go ahead and play in the hardcore mode !

The story is not the best I've ever seen, but the writers made it amazingly well-told and tailored. Leon and Claire are always after something, and it's easy to get caught up in the world Capcom created; It's hard to put down the controller in your first playthrough. And even if you already beat the game, the unlockables are a fun reason to play on harder difficulties and aim for the S rating. A few extra modes are also included in the base game, and they're very fun to go through, because of how action-packed they are. If you played RE7, think of "Ethan Must Die".

Out of all the DLCs, the only one I think is worth paying for is the original soundtrack. Not because of nostalgia, but because, in the base game, music only plays when you first enter a save room or if you're on a boss fight. For most of the game, it's either complete silence or some very bland sounds. When you switch to the original soundtrack, if you're in a save room, a slow melody plays. When fighting an enemy, a bass-like sound plays, and so on. I think it suits the game better, and it's not really expensive. The other DLCs are either cosmetics or unlock all unlockables early on, but I don't know why anyone would want to pay for the unlockables since you can unlock all of them for free by playing the game.

This game has something to offer for all kinds of players. If you're only interested in a horror story, this is surely a great gateway to this genre, and should give you about 20 hours of content. If you're a completionist and want all achievements, you're looking at 50 hours of content.

Either way, I strongly believe this game is one of the best on steam, and it's a steal on sales! Absolutely worth picking up!
