You need to figure out how to install the protontricks package before you can get this game working. This is because the game demands the Windows Media Player 11 tool in order to play cutscenes, and the default Proton config for this game doesn't include it. Protontricks will allow you to configure the proton for this particular game to include Windows Media Player 11 with a simple command. With that, it'll work.
It can be discouraging that there's no simple Debian or Ubuntu package for Proton Tricks, but don't get discouraged, there's plenty of guides on how to install it that work on any distribution.
Good luck!
4 years after, Resident evil 5 still uplayed and untamed. One of hardcore for Linux games. I played 4,6,7,2re. . all except 5 . Using wine 5.7, dxvk d9vk, proton 5.0.6, proton GE no results. game hangs immidialy after i run it on Steam. Without steam cannot run. i need coop.
I hope anyone until 2030-2050 years can run Resident Evil 5 on Linux. Maybe need thousand years to run game.. ^((
Maybe my GTX 1080+Ryzen 3200 is too cheap to run this GREAT game.
I don't know how to install protontricks, i skip this step. no debian linux .deb packet from dev on github. https://github.com/Matoking/protontricks
Angry programmers from microsoft annoys protect from Linux games. Really annoy.
