Maybe it's the changes in the game (some of which have been specifically for driving physics) since reviews like this one. Maybe it's because the cheap starter car doesn't (and shouldn't) handle well and that's probably the only car someone with half an hour's experience of the game will have tried.
Parts and setup have a large effect on handling (as they should). Tire type, size, wear and pressure. Suspension. Vehicle weight. Steering. Differential. Power. Power curve. They all affect handling. It's simpler than a simulator and more complex than an arcade game, like the rest of this game. You'll probably end up with at least 3 racing cars (offroad, track, drag) because switching cars is easier than changing components to move from one track to another track of the same type.
Maybe it's time to give it one more chance?
But this is my first car, I didn't upgrade it, I only tried the Backyard track, and I will definitely put some more hours in it before judging.
This review is, in fact, not to take into account if you're interested in this game. Because of the reasons very well explained by InfinityzeN.
Did you actually build a car from scratch in the game, trying combinations of varies parts to change its performance characteristics?
Did you engage in a few street races?
Did you go to any of the race tracks throughout the varies zones in the game?
Did you go back to scratch building a car for a single purpose such as drag racing on the 1/4 mile drag strip or the high speed oval track?
The answer to all of those will be no, because you do not have enough time in the game to do any of them if you put any effort into it. Meaning your review is deceptive and has no relation on the product in its current form or in fact in any form it has had for the last few years.
Problem was, even at that time, that it was marketed as a complete product, not EA.
