Actually quite neato. I get the flak being sent its way after controversy surrounding Konami but the game is legitimately enjoyable in its own right.
What is absolutely needed is a free demo of the first couple of missions, up to that one in the shipping container base to give the potential buyer an idea of what the singleplayer is like because it's a totally different game from the Online showcased in the beta.

  • Story's about what you'd expect from a non-Kojima game like Portable Ops or AC!D which is to say not great but serviceable.
  • Gameplay's great as you'd expect from a game largely built off of the framework of MGSV. New additions such as melee are granted fairly awkward discouraging combat but thanks to great animations from what I expect was largely the same team behind MGSV's superb animations, it's not a chore to play. The slow and awkward controls also encourage fighting defensively and stealthily which work contrary to points I've seen floating about that stealth is worthless.
  • Stealth is more rewarding thanks to bonuses being earned for taking out enemies from stealth and fultoning their bodies and it's more they have my wife and children send help tense given that so much of what you do is on a timer now. You can't crouch or crawl along the ground without draining stamina necessitating that you stop and recover occasionally, you're constantly battling a rapidly depleting thirst and hunger gauge and in the dust an oxygen gauge too. Playing stealthily is safer in the immediate circumstance but in the long term you're exhausting more resources to keep yourself going for when you inevitably find yourself in combat.
  • Survival elements aren't complex by any means but they're suitably oppressive for the setting. I've found myself a few times now expending valuable ammunition just to shoot down a raven and eat it raw, suffering food poisoning in the process just to keep going that little bit further which I can't say is a level of desperation I've experienced in other games of the survival genre.
  • Base building and management makes a return which I didn't anticipate and is now more complex and in depth than the equivalent in MGSV but still nothing especially spectacular.

I highly recommend watching some gameplay on YouTube or some such and giving this game a chance.
