Where to begin with Monster Hunter: World. The game is, as the title would suggest, a game about hunting a variety of different monsters, if you have played the previous games then you know already how the game plays, for new players i would say this game gives you a fair amount of freedom in what you want to use to hunt/capture these monsters as it gives you a choice of 14 different weapon types with vastly different playstyles from slow but hard hitting greatsword to the fast and nimble bow. the monsters also have a lot of unique interactions with each other called turf wars which are a new feature included in World. These can range from a dragon picking up and slamming a T-Rex into the ground, to elder dragons battling for territory. As far as the Monster Hunter series goes World is probably the most accessible with the new quality of life changes the new engine and platform allows such as being able to move while using most items as well as more detailed monster animations making it easier to read attacks. but this doesn't mean that there aren't issues. For new players the combat can feel clunky especially on some of the slower weapons like the greatsword and hammer, and the fast weapons such as the dual blades can make you feel like your just flying passed the monster all of the time. There is also no real tutorial or guide for some of the more complicated weapon mechanics in the game such as the insect glaive's kinsect and essences, or the charge blades phials and shield charging, which can leave people feeling like weapons are lacking. I had the luxury of playing my first run with someone who had already put a lot of time into World as well as the previous games so many of these issues weren't as bad as they could have been for me so my advice is if you are starting with some of the slower weapons, keep at it for a little bit as eventually they stop feeling so clunky and cumbersome. and if the weapon you're using feels like its lacking in some respect look around online or try to figure out if there is some hidden mechanic that you could be missing.

As far as monsters go, World has quite a few of them, 32 in total (excluding the 27 already in iceborn on console with more on the way? and each of them are quite different in how they look and play, from the small and fast tobi-kadachi to the powerful and deadly deviljho and all of these monsters havedifferent armour and weapon sets which provide different bonuses and stats. For me, learning the monsters, and creating the gear and skill sets for different weapons are most of the fun for me so im not going to go into much more detail but with the same weapon there are still different methods of playing that you can make using different skills and armour.

Visually the game is stunning, even on its lowest graphical settings the game can be beautiful, each monster looks unique and most of them you can tell pretty quickly how they might play just by looking at them. The environments are diverse, from lush jungles and forests, to scorching deserts and volcanic caves, each of these areas look believable and are reasonable spread out on the world map, and the monsters in them reflect the area they are in such as having camouflage to help keep them hidden from larger predators, or having their diets mach the area and the food sources in them.

now on to one of the games worst parts, the community, and i need to preface right at the start that the majority of the community is perfectly fine, but lets be honest the good parts of a game community aren't what sticks out the most and there are many people who believe that because you like to use a weapon that they don't like or that they felt was lacking in some regard that that weapon is objectively bad even though if used well any and every weapon can solo the hardest hunts in the game and me and other people i know have essentially been bullied and kicked from public hunts for using some of these weapons, like i said at the start of this section most of the community are nice people and even if they don't like what you are using they tend to keep it to them selves but those aren't the people who stick out unfortunately, and while this is a negative point, it is by no means a severe one and doesn't even come close to overshadowing this games many great aspects.

overall this is a game that i would say is still worth the launch price, i can't say anything about the iceborn expansion as that is not yet out on pc but i would be surprised if it did not meet the same standard that the base game has set. I've already logged over 400 hours and i am not even close to doing everything i want just in the base game. I know this was a long one, thank you for reading, and i hope this helped you to make your decision on this game.
