I've never been into this game even if I got the old one in 2013. Few months ago thanks to few friends who were playing it, I decided to give it a second chance: this game is addicting. Even if it gets hard at some points, even if it's mainly RNG based, it's so much fun an addicting. Would recommend 10/10

Pros: Gameplay is fun, entertaining, you can play both local and online (up to 10 players), simple, easy to learn.Cons: It destroys friendships

II spent quite a lot of time on this game now, and what I can say is that I would both recommend and not recommend this game for many and different reasons.

Important NOTICE before you read!

This review is quite outdated. Game has been patched twice now and the situation got better for certain aspects. Therefore, I'll write at the end of the review what changed within the last patches (Current patch: 93.3)

Pros:

- Awesome combat system
- Fun dungeons with interesting mechanics
- Every class is unique and enjoyable
- Defined roles for each class: Tanks, healers, dds
- With new patch, it can be considered Alt friendly
- Frequent events that will mainly help new players

Cons:

- It can be pay to win: what I mean is that you can reach end game gear even by being free to play, but the amount of time that you have to spend grinding it's insane
- Lack of ways to farm certain items that are required for your gear progression (for example Improved Dark Shard Weapon / Armor Feedstocks): there's no way to obtain them 100% because they're so rare that you will barely see them dropping from mobs / bosses or even worse, some items can't even be dropped at all (mask / belt tokens)
- Outdated RNG gear upgrading system (which in my honest opinion is the most frustrating part, you can either spend 600k golds and get your gear piece +15 or spend 6m golds and still be +12 as I am)
- Lack of contents: even if Tera gets patched really often, patches are quite poor. Last patches gave us only one new dungeon per patch to allow us to farm what needed to reach end game gear, leaving behind all the previous dungeons. However, they tried to bring back "old dungeons" by releasing extreme modes as events, which are basically old dungeons with reworked and harder mechanics
- Bad client optimization: in fact, it's still 32 bit. No matter which kind of computer you have, you will always have lag issues
- Lack of players
- Community (mainly elitists) can be unpleasant
- A lot of bugs which don't get fixed in a reasonable amount of time (or never)
- Lack of decent pvp content
- Lack of useful open world contents: Tera has a huge amount of cool maps which may be used to create enjoyable contents. In the last patches they released Exodor which is a new map, unfortunately the only open world available here is named boss hunting (which is a pain and almost impossible to do if you don't have Tera club) and daily quests (which are almost useless)
- Annoying entry limitation system: we have something called Adventure coins. With Tera club you have a maximum of 1680 Adventure coins (without tera club is 1000) that you will spend everytime you enter in a new dungeon. Considering that the most useful dungeon costs almost 400 coins for each entry and that the amount of materials dropped by the dungeons itself it's pretty low, it doesn't let you grind as freely as you want as long as you do not purchase more Adventure coins in the web shop or in the in-game marketplace (which can be also expansive). Not to mention that Adventure coins won't reset on a daily basis but they will slowly regenerate with time (no matter if you're online or offline)
- Lack of character's personalization: regardless the huge amount of outfits available in game (note: mainly for Elins) you can only choose certain "presets" when it comes to create a new character and then you can slightly change certain details, which compared to other current mmos it's pretty sad

Besides this I really like Tera in general. I think that the combat system and the people that I managed to meet in this game are the only things that keep me playing. I only wish that developers would fix most of the issues that came out with the last patches. If you're looking for a fun game with some issues and you're looking to play it in a casual way it's really enjoyable, otherwise I would strongly recommend to do not even start.

IMPORTANT Changes with patch 93.3

- Changes regarding drop and rare items: now it is much easier to obtain rare items such as Improved Feedstocks (must-have to upgrade your weapon / armor to reach max up +15), and end game belt, brooch and mask boxes (now obtainable directly from certain high-level dungeons) so tokens are no longer essential to achieve these items
- Changes regarding gear update: from +0 to +10 upgrade chances have been increased. Also, it's no longer possible to damage and it will no longer downgrade under upgrading failure until +10, which it's a nice feature. Notice: Materials required to upgrade your items increased, but success rate is also higher than before
- Changes regarding dungeon weekly entries: First of all, you can no longer enter in dungeons how many times you want within a week, but you have weekly limitation entries besides Adventure Coins consumptions. With premium user (Tera Club) you have a maximum of 80 entries per week for each dungeon, while without premium user you have a limit of 40 weekly entries (aside from Corrupted Skynest Hard, which has a maximum 10 entries per week with Tera Club and 5 without Tera Club). Total Adventure Coins available and their regeneration over time have been increased. In fact, with Tera Club you now have a maximum of 2400 ACs and 1400 without Tera Club. Adventure Coins needed to enter in dungeons have been highly decreased. Now the most "expansive" dungeon in terms of Adventure Coins costs 250 ACs while before it was 385 ACs
- Changes for new players: a new "Scout Gear" has been added in order to allow new players to have a decent gear once they hit level 65. This gear is obtainable via a purple quest and it's easily upgradable, it requires lower materials (not the same ones you will need for the end-game gear, so while you're farming materials for scout gear you can still save the ones you'll need in the future once you'll achieve the final gear) gatherable in lower dungeons. Once you fully upgrade this gear you can dismantle it and you'll get a great quantity of standard armor and weapon Feedstocks, needed to upgrade the final gear. A lot of skill exp is now obtainable via purple main quests
- Changes regarding old dungeons: all old dungeons have been reworked. Bosses have been balanced (def / damage wise) accordingly to the current patch, all the loot tables have been changed. Old dungeons now drop current patch materials and items. Moreover, "low" dungeons grant 99 self-ress for each dungeon (for a fee of 300 golds each), so it's really helpful for new players who are still learning how dungeons / classes work.

Unfortrunately most of the Cons I mentioned a couple of months ago are still present in the game, but some core aspects have been changed in order to improve players's quality of life. As conclusion, I would still recommend Tera to new players and / or to people who want to come back to the game.
