135 Hours played
January 2024 updated review :
I've got more than 100 hours with the game now, and I must be in the middle of Act 3, so let's update this review.

I'm still giving it a negative review due to the number of issues we're having when playing in local co-op, even after several patches. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I like D:OS 1 and 2 a lot more than BG3.

- The loot is completely uninteresting. The lack of crafting hurts, and what's the deal with the locked chests all having stuff worth less than the lockpicks used to open them??
- The UI is overall atrocious and hard to use, especially in co-op where you can't check your tooltips if the other player is doing anything else. Tons of annoyances like the books fonts that are super tiny in splitscreen, the bonuses with no explanations (what's spell accuity exactly?), the over-complicated way to swap characters, the sorting options that reset all the time and are different between windows, etc.
- The camera is very weird, especially in combat when it zooms in/out randomly, ruining the immersion.
- The whole theme/story, which for me feels like it was written for Divinity initially, and got re-skinned with D&D later on.
- The combat, which is just bad and boring. I love turn based combat, but it's pretty poor in BG3, and inferior to Larian's previous titles.
- The pacing is all over the place.
- Everyone praises the choices, but the evil playthrough is a complete afterthought and lacks meaningful content, which makes me wonder what's so great about the choices you have in the end.
- etc.

It's a 6-7/10 for me (D:OS2 would've received a 9) in it's current state. I sincerely think it's overhyped and overrated, and I assume most players never make it to Act 2 before moving on to something else.

We'll finish it, and the graphics, music and voice acting are stellar, but we've honestly been kinda sick of it for the past 25+ hours and can't wait to be done with it now.

Will update again if the ending blows me away, but I doubt it at this point..

August 2023 original review :
There's a great game in there for sure, but what Larian has released is an unpolished mess that keeps crashing every 20 minutes or so, with their usual huge list of bugs and broken features that won't be fixed until the Definitive Edition comes out in a year or so.

I love their games, I love Baldur's Gate, but I really wished they wouldn't pull a Cyberpunk on us this time.

Highly recommend waiting a year to buy this one. It'll be great, just not this year.
