I've spent around 5,5K hours playing this game over the span of 4 years, and let me tell you, it's still going strong. And I've got some things to say about it.

Is it a horror game?
Yes! But only for the first few hours... Once you get the hang of the game mechanics and figure out how everything works, it becomes your average multiplayer experience, player versus player*S* with a small twist of being asymmetrical

Good side of the game
• Collabs and licenses
You can actually play as your favorite characters from other franchises, like Heather/Cheryl Mason, Steve Harrington, Bruce Campbell (Ash from Evil Dead), Wesker, Pinhead, and even Michael Myers. Plus, You can play on iconic maps like RPD, Midwich, and Badham.
• Perks galore
There are so many perks in this game that cater to every playstyle you can think of. Whether you like looping, sneaking around, being altruistic, hunting, or just putting pressure on generators, there's a perk for everything.
• Often chapters
Every 3 months, they drop a new chapter with 1 killer, at least 1 survivor, and a fresh map. Sometimes, they throw in these mid-chapters with just one character, either a survivor or a killer. As I'm writing this, we've got Nicolas Cage soon-to-be released
• Variety in playstyles
The killers in this game each have their own unique powers and playstyles. Long range? Huntress, Deathslinger. Mobile? Blight, Nurse. Make everyone miserable? Skull Merchant, Knight. You'll definitely find a killer that suits your style.
• Details and animations
Game is packed with so many cool little details and Easter eggs. Just by looking at the animations, you can tell each character's personality. For example, Bill leaning on a log like in L4D or Lisa Garland sitting like she does in her SH1 manuals. Not talking about the skins or maps.

Bad side of the game
• Awful MMR
As a new player, you'll often get matched up against older players with over 800 hours in the game. It can be a rough introduction, but don't worry, you'll get the hang of it eventually (both the MMR and the game mechanics).
• Grinding and paywalls
You're gonna have to grind like crazy to achieve your goals in this game. They've toned it down a bit from a few years ago, but it can still be a grindfest. Plus, they lock some of the best perks behind paywalls, so you might end up spending real money to keep up with the meta. Check out MintSkull's video on "How Dead By Daylight's Monetization is Unfair for New Players" for more
• Bugs, bugs and possibly bugs
Since this game is built on blueprints, you can expect a boatload of bugs. From bugged animations to crashing killers games because number in one perk changed (that really happened), game has horrible amount of bugs, some of them are just visual and some of them are game breaking. info. Every patch removes few bugs and brings new "features" and might seem annoying but don't worry it's not that bugad, it might be even funny at times.

That's all folks!
I recommend you game with all my heart and it's definitely worth checking it out, especially with friends!
Most importantly, don't buy this game at full price. It's not *that* worth it, especially for a new players. Buy only licensed DLCs and try to grind out non-licensed DLCs and buy it with shards.
For the love of God, don't waste your iri shards on shrine of secrets if you see you can get 100k bps, you can get it in like 3 matches.
