Early Access Review
Look at my playtime. It doesn't take that much time to beat, I just keep playing it over and over and... I can't get enough.

Combat is exciting! Edge of your seat the whole time because its always challenging. The way the game ups the difficulty via invasion tiers keeps the enemies on an even keel with you as you upgrade your own arsenal. The combat is also beautiful. With loads of different sprites for t he enemies reacting in different ways and debris filling the screen like a John Woo film. The enemies are clever and it's very are that you can trick or cheese them because they will try different tactics on you. (Okay, the Juggernaut is a bit of an exception, you can kinda cheese him if you're lucky) But between these ballets of violence, there's some incredible environments to explore. The world building is some of the best in the industry. Every datapad makes the world feel that much more alive. I enjoy all the references everywhere too.. It does slip into Seth McFarlan levels a bit, but usually it still feels coherent and lore appropriate.

I wish more games played like this. I wish more games LOOKed like this. I wish more games SOUNDED like this, the audio feedback is incredible useful and the soundtrack keeps your head bobbing the whole time.

If you're expecting a boomer shooter or an imm sim, there's hints of both, but Selaco is really its own thing. There isn't much to compare it too. Sure there's a lot of FEAR and DOOM3 influence, but it doesn't feel like those games. It's not easy, but it rewards clever fast and accurate inputs. And if you prefer one style of FPS gameplay over another, you can usually build your loadout to focus on that style. Weather that's melee first, or more medium-long range focused. And it's these different build options that keep me coming back. I didn't like the SMGs as much as the AR my first run, so I played again focusing on them, and discovered they can be very useful in certain situations, well above the AR.

Highly recommended. It's my favorite game.
