i love this dlc its so awesome i love mech fights n ♥♥♥♥ its so awesome and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ i've played this game too much

after the release of mechwarrior 5: clans i think people have come to realize the realistic definitions of "sandbox game" and "story game".

mechwarrior 5: mercenaries is a game that tries to do both sandbox, and story, and within the ecosystem its made, it does so brilliantly. most people who have given this dlc a negative review (and even most people who have given this dlc a positive review) generally refuse to realize that the base game is supposed to both:
- tell a story
- allow you a sandbox within that ecosystem

heroes of the inner sphere is a DLC that would be generally loved were it in mech warrior 5: clans as a result of its gameplay loop as a story first game, leaving most to compare it to this game AND its dlc (for no real reason, i feel) which has left everybody upset that mech warrior 5: clans is NOT a sandbox game.

as it stands, heroes of the inner sphere (contrary to what everyone has said) is not a dlc that is needed to play the 'full experience' of mechwarrior 5: mercenaries- and to say so would be to say something along the lines of "fallout 4's dlc is a must buy to experience the full experience of fallout 4" of which i think most people can agree is a false statement. heroes of the inner sphere is fantastic, and even though i personally cannot play the game without it, you do not need it to experience the sandbox nature of mechwarrior 5: mercenaries, and i would even urge you to finish a full normal campaign of mechwarrior 5: mercenaries before you get this dlc because so much is fundamentally different from the base game in a way everyone ignores simply because "my ideal of mechwarrior is this sandbox" -everyone else, probably (not).

heroes of the inner sphere is both a fantastic dlc that shows there's always more potential for the game you're making, and you have the power to push past your intentions to make more fantastic content for your micro or macro fiction, and also proof that regardless of what you do, everyone else will generally miss interpret your work to be their strict definition of what they think it should be.

so: if you buy this dlc just note that you're probably best doing so with mods, because you should only buy/play this dlc when you're finally done with the intended game experience given to you with the base game.

i do thoroughly feel like this game ends up being something a lot of people hear about and end up disregarding because the community around it is so unfathomably excited and filled with joy that people on the outside just hear all the insane dwarf ramblings that occur like the constant "rock and stone" among other deep rock references that is, unfortunately, just a poison anything popular suffers from.
realistically, the game is nice. I would not say the game is the best ever, nor is it really worth all the hype because almost a decade of screaming about how fantastic this game is doesn't do anyone any favors, but its a really good game that once you play it you can understand why people play it for 300, 800, or even upwards of over a thousand hours, because its just a nice and good comfort game.

the devs know what they're doing, and thats great, and this game has gone on for over a decade with *loving, updates (*which most games you'll see like Destiny, or even the critically acclaimed league of legends cant manage) that make the game more enticing; and giving the devs money by purchasing the game off sale, or even getting some dlcs (just to look pretty) is something I think you should consider after giving it a try, or a peek.

the real only downside is just the community being so loud- because they're also some of the nicest people ever, they just, are rather loud about the things they like.

I think everyone should give deeprock a try, even if you already have your "four idiots are sent to die in a hole" game like helldivers, or L4D2 if you're a pharoh, because this game really finds a different aspect to the formula provided in those games that kind of hooks you like a fish in as good of a way as that can be interpreted.

this dlc is really good, but not worth the original asking price.
its like, a content pack- which dlcs should be, you know?- but its not comparable to the other dlcs by the fact that it doesnt really add anything new, nor does it add a different way to play a game- which dlcs shouldnt be.- which makes it more of a QOL update more than a dlc; but when its on sale its normally on sale for anywhere from 40-60% off, which brings it to a realistic price that you SHOULD be paying originally, since the content in it is realistically not that bad, and the biomes are rather fun to play through.
if you have money to spend, this isnt that bad of a way to spend it, and if its on sale then this is absolutely not a bad buy- but its not a NEED, which is good and bad in its own respects. so really, if you like the fantasy of hitting a mech with a mech's sword, yeah, this dlc is amazing. if you dont, the other dlc will have you covered!
(recommending because i like the fantasy of hitting a mech with another mech's sword)
