You should not play this game. It is run by an overly greedy company that doesn’t care for how the game plays or its community. Said company has frequently made false promises, some of which spanning years. They decided to scrap the reason Overwatch 2 was made initially (the expansive PVE story mode with skill trees) way before the game was close to launching and still tried to sell it as if it would have the full PVE experience. You may have fun at first, but this game breeds toxicity faster than mold in a wet basement. This review will mainly focus on my personal experience with Overwatch 1 and 2.

I started playing Overwatch on my Xbox One in the Summer of 2017 when it was on sale for its first Anniversary. My account of events may not be completely accurate, forgive me for that. I started playing because I saw some videos on Youtube and some school friends played on Xbox as well. I went in having watched all of the current Overwatch cinematics as well as already knowing who I wanted to play, Bastion. Your possible grievances with me aside, I loved him. My favorite kinds of characters in games and even media as a whole are robots or similar. During this period of my life I would play Overwatch as much as I could which was usually during the weekends and mostly with my friends that played. I look back on this time fondly and consider it some of the best times I’ve had.

I was obsessed with the world and lore and excited for the updates. My first FPS ever was Quake III Arena (I have a cool dad) and Overwatch was my second even though it was on console. I played Overwatch to death and eventually another one of my friends got the game too and great times were had. I fell off Overwatch some time in 2019 and started to only play a bit. When that era of school was over I didn’t play with those friends anymore.

In 2021 one of my current friends started playing Overwatch and so I got back into it with another friend and that’s how my aim started to get better. It was great teaching them about Overwatch through my experience (I’m mainly a casual player though). When we moved to Overwatch 2 it was fun for the first 3 seasons then fell off massively. To finish things off, the news of PVE not coming in the way it was promised was a massive blow to me. Overwatch’s world and characters are very special to me and to see the company responsible for them slowly destroy the game they were made for saddens me greatly. Do not play this game or support it in any way in its current state or even any state.
