Wouldn't really recommend due to lack of actual content, how often the troll cheats in ways that makes it impossible to win a 'legit' run. (Idk if intended or not.)
I mean, with how cheap it is, not crippling financially for me, but honestly you're better off just watching a let's play of it.

Essentially you're just running multiple runs of finding out the rules to try and pad out the game's play hours which aren't fun imo, or at least it isn't done right for a lot of the time.

Just not my game, really. Hope others enjoy it more then I did and that the Dev(s) make more games with success.

The game is alright, ngl me and a friend quite literally demolished this game in 2 days, granted there was some cheesing, but even so we ended up redoing stuff legit just to make sure and get as much achievements as possible that the cheesing didn't matter, other than funny.

I would advise AGAINST buying this game if it isn't on sale. It does not have much variations.
As an example there are maybe roughly 3 types of "big" islands. (Spawns Screecher and 1-2 hogs and 1-2 animal)
That isn't to say the game is bad, but you quite literally complete the game so fast and the devs have no intentions of updating the game. (L To a possible bow upgrade)

Hopefully now maybe modding community was spiked with update and they'll add actual content? Eh, well maybe not new island but at least new items. The game still feels unfinished.

Physics in this game are ass at times. Sometimes you're fighting to get on the boat during big waves or hook just casually missing an item since the waves made it go up and the hook doesn't move to match.

Overall it's a decent game and a nice change of pace from some other survival games.
But as stated earlier, I'd recommend getting it on sale than full price given how short it is, and because they did bow the dirty with no upgrades even if it's strongest weapon ingame.

Updating review since it has changed, somewhat.
What's new? Well, they started to run gamemode events like upcoming 2v8 (promised to be perm), lights out and whatever... Oh and deep rifts are a thing. (Since previous review was in 2020)

Unfortunately it's still development hell because you still have bugs that aren't killswitched or even fixed like DS either being near instant or forever depending on killer, inconsistent "anti-camp" which is a 50/50 if it works. Yes it doesn't work in end game, but I'm not on about that.

Oh, but the killers, are they fun to play or good-
Merchant is about to get her 100th rework. Chucky is janked as hell. Sometimes gens can pop not once, not twice but three times from one singular gen. How do they let this of all things slip?
Oh and uhh knight is going to be able to switch guards, nice change but most of the time you're going to use the big guy.

Ah- how about survivors them?
Previously mentioned bugged DS which also means the tunnel zone is available. More strong perks, which y'know you won't get to used if you get hard tunnelled, not always but it happens... Or even get slugged.

"Why are you playing this game if you hate it?"
My friend brought me the stupid rift so I feel obligated to play. Mostly with 'em but also just to finish the deep rift.
If my friend in question is reading this; ♥♥♥♥ you, I hate you for making me play Yui.

[ Keeping this section since the community is unchanged. ]

The moderators are toxic and will allow people to harass and stalk you, but god forbid you DARE make a meme or something that can (and will be) taken out of context.
Then again, it explains why BHVR fired the person who pushed for the Into the rainbow for DbD (Aka LGBT representation.)
I'd rather be a gay person labelled as "homophobic" then to pretend to support LGBT just for money. Like sure they slapped David as gay. JK Rowling did the literal same thing.

The game is hell, and with it, has built up a toxic community with more bad apples than good ones, avoid it if I were you, even developers hinted you should play other games, and stop buying DLCs with money, use shards otherwise they're going to pump the same crap.

Remember, it's okay to spam forums, harass stalk and dox users and just derail threads. They'll only ban you if you're "Homophobic" or type in full caps for a meme.
Which isn't surprising, anyway I'm off to dox anyone who sandbags me or doesn't give me hatch in this game. /j (Yes, /j means joke.)

And before a moderator cries trying to remove this review, this is what YOU actively encourage with how you interact with the community.

For recommendation, try Project Zomboid or Don't Starve Together, their community is less toxic, more friendly and the games are both updated and actually gets worked on by devs to be balanced.
I also want to mention Lethal Company as that is great with friends, and you can get Thunderstore Mod Manager to add bigger lobbies if you have more than 3 friends.

I got this game once I discovered the game was in beta (Together) since I was getting more into the Single Player version.

And to admit, I'm only writing this for the steam nomination thing, but I did give this labour of love, again.
[Update 01/12/24] {
Same thing, steam nomination.
}

Whiles I do feel like a lot of there more recent updates have been, well kind of lacking in content since it took several months for one part that introduced the lunar rifts, then more for the Nightmare ones and finally ending it off (least I think) with the new Wagstaff armour and lunar upgrades to bosses.

But the developers do at least try to put in their effort, which unfortunately is a rare thing these days especially with publishers breathing down their necks.

[Update 01/12/24] {
They've expanded more on the end game... Well, okay admittingly they more 'finished' adding said end game content or presumably for now due to skill trees for Wortox, Wendy and Waltar.

And it's similar problem in that it's lacking, but not in content but in viability, there is little reason to consider opening the rifts still given their permanent effects on the world (assuming don't turn off) along with no counters to those brightshades setting up shop at your base; which is fine at first but there's no way to stop them, not to mention the cave version of an planar damaging enemy that can only be revealed under certain circumstances and are able to get free damage on you with no counters unless you came pre-prepared, as in you must bring this endgame 'bomb' to break it or have some AOE thing... Don't get me started on those 'masks' that can infect Rock Lobsters that are the worst and useless mobs in the game that they're the only mob I flat out remove... But like last time, I'm sure they'll fix and work on stuff... Also rest in peace Wortox's Boss Obliterator that is his souls.

Cringe aah review from 2016.
Updated in 2024 and made public.

It's an alright game, not my type personally but it's very well crafted and I wish to play it more in future.

This game was really good, for a 9 year old game it held up well...
And I honestly can't believe I got so upset over the removal of mods in versus, lmao it's prob better since now not every brain dead moron can try and cheat, kek.

It's dirt ass cheap during sales so it's not a massive hole in your pocket.
I still find myself always coming back to this game because it's a one of a kind and is just so good, as Valve games are.

The campaigns are decent, I wouldn't say they're the best thing but I am bias for versus, they're still very good and there are a lot of fantastic workshop maps to check out, like with mods this game is mostly infinite.

Even though to some versus community is toxic ass, I find it adorable and fun still, especially since I usually have some friends who are always ready to play L4D2 with me, I like the community a lot.
Obviously know that versus is competitive and will kick you over simple mistakes, don't take it harshly use it as a way to reflect.

The community as a whole (Or at least mostly on the forums) are quite nice, sometimes there are some idiots but y'know, no community is perfect otherwise it'd be boring. A lot of nice peeps.

A once amazing game that stood the test of time is now overridden with bots.
Valve does not care in the slightest.

A real shame since I loved this game, and it's sad to know I probably won't get to play this for halloween since bots will be all over Casual servers.

After all these years, they're letting this great game go out with a whimper due to the bot infestation... That's sad.
Worse part? They noticed this two years ago and did nothing.
