You're not getting out of this with clean hands, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
(This alone is enough for a negative)

Whole Terraria vs Starbound topic is pointless, both games are good in their respective area - Terraria in earth, Starbound in space.

!!!MAKE BACKUPS WHENEVER YOU UNINSTALL STARBOUND. CLOUD IS UNRELIABLE FOR THIS!!!

Bounty Hunter update:
PROS:

Something to do.

80s wibe is neat, i suppose. Altho at times there's a bit too much of it, and the theme you hear for most of the quest is just a remix of The Deep.

The cyberspace instances were neat, even tho i only got 1 of them somehow.

CONS:

Same planet hopping as the main quest, which is mostly just a chore. At least this time it's with directions.

During one of the bounty quests the game managed to generate a location in such a way that it was impossible to complete the quest, forcing to abandon it.

No unique feel to any of the targets, even during instanced areas in the quest.

Screw the last boss and all the fiddling i had to do to even barely be able to kill it. Most weapons are ineffective against it due to how fat the laser link spawns are - the only thing that managed to cut through them is the max tier double blades, since it both does a lot of damage and pierces.
Not having i-frames after taking damage on the mech, boss turning into teleporting bastard during 2nd phase that hopped on top of you most of the time, forcing contact damage, having to re-do the entire ship each time...

If you wanted to make mechs more useful, you could've done something else other than make the last boss of the bounty update a mech gear check. Mechs are still largely useless outside of it. You didn't fix the problem.

Main game:
PROS:
Cooking is incredibly interesting.

Bosses feel somewhat unique.

Space exploration is done very well. You even get to share coordinates for planets which allows other people to see the planet as it was generated.

Multiple ways to progress ( farming, cooking, mining, space goods trading ).

Post-main quest content of ancient vaults and terraforming is pretty nice.

Multiplayer is pretty easy to setup and playing with friends doesnt even need a server( joining through steam ).

NPC requirement for colony forces you to somewhat stylize the rooms.

Incredible variety of cosmetics\armor sets\npcs\decorations\blocks.

You get to wear a smoke-emitting cape.

Most of the cosmetics can be colored with dyes to your liking.

Custom signs system is nice for building.

Tyrian(the game) level of hidden lore through codexes.

Easy building due to the nature of Matter Manipulator.

Each crew member can be recruited as a side-kick for planet exploration or even bosses ( sadly, limited to 2 people, and mostly boils down to 2 soldiers or outlaws for any sort of efficiency )

Some of the soundtrack is pretty darn nice and memorable.

CONS:
Some weapons ( including uniques ) have a delay before you can use them after equipping them ( even using hotbar ), often forcing you to forget about a nice sword or a launcher just couse you can't use it fast enough. Like Hokucide or Doomcannon.

Bug catching has the same rng as the main quest objects - forcing you to hop planets until you find what you need.

Fishing is annoying and rng heavy(only bother fishing on magma planets and be mentally prepared for grind and frustration).

if you crash after a progression boss you cant progress by any means without backing up a save file(after finishing the main quest i never got piggy's reputable weaponry trader which was supposed to spawn after defeating Shockhopper boss in mech progression, which i did, but crashed after killing him. Killing him a 2nd time via revisiting the mission didn't help )

On top of crashes and freezes, game sometimes has server-like lag ( even in singleplayer ) which can and will get annoying.

FTL is too simplified. Getting fuel after crafting grappling hook is way easier.

Weather on fiery stars ( solarium ore, glitch artifact quest, museum quest item for Silent Knight ) either destroys anything on its surface\both destroys surface and oneshots you\destroys more and oneshots you ( and all of that can get you flagged as a thief by villagers if you stand near buildings ). That killed my mood after realising i cant build colonies in Scorched biomes, altho terraforming helps with that since it didn't ( at least yet ) transfer meteor rain onto the planet.

Getting to the final boss was harder than the actual boss. Seriosly, pattern is extremely simple and monsters off random biomes that are summoned are more of a threat than the boss itself. And that thing was portrayed as planet-destroying evil.

Statuette achievement deserves to be cheated with itemgive. Much like wiki said, i've gotten through the main quest ( which is close to 80 hours of gameplay ) without ever getting one. And you need like 50. Wow.

interacting with anything in a ship can get infuriating with a full crew due to interaction button also recruiting crew members to your planet party.

Main quest gets boring as soon as you get freedom of travel ( which is pretty much start of the game ). It's nothing but going to a specific planet type, looking through some decorations in specific villages, then going back to activate a mission(dungeon).

Crew AI regarding combat and bonuses like healing is done pretty poorly. All bonuses ( including Glow, which is helpful in caves ) seems to only get triggered in combat, and has a cooldown lenghty enough to ignore it and just take 2 soldiers for pure combat backup.

Tech cards\manipulator modules\upgrade modules are incredibly easy to get with enough ship fuel and just clutter the inventory after a certain point ( which turns search for rare cosmetics or rare fish drops into RNG hell, i've got a PTSD after
searching Hyloti underwater cities for three-eyed glasses for 4~ hours straight ).

Only thing worth in open space mech locations is abundancy of gold ( most of the decorations can be farmed without needing to fight or fighting very little, and you can savescum via beaming to the ship and re-deploying the mech, since that doesnt respawn enemies, which also removes a need for most of the mech progression ).

Whole pet system feels like an afterthought ( need to have inventory open to see pet's hp ).

PRO\CON ( can be either or both ):
Progression can be massively skipped.

First weapon you get can get reforged into one of the most powerful at the end of a game ( 6 tier uncommon sword with trail dash was still way more useful to me tho ).

Weapons with teleportation skill often trivialize ground-based fights no matter how powerful weapon is due to invincibility frames.

"I win" healing item which heals you for 100 hp within a second.

Fishing and some minor farming can trivialize a NEED for food.

You really need a wiki or a buddy who've beat the game for this ride.

Farming has a better progression than the gear. I've gotten better weapons and EPPs searching for sugar, seriosly. One of the weapons i got during that carried me through the game.

Some missions ( dungeons ) have pretty obscure secrets. One is hidden in 1st part of a mission, after which you can't go back, and is nothing more than set of weird interactable items.

You get to cheat in singleplayer.

Staffs and wands massively overpower any other weapon ( including most of uniques, my level ( tier ) 4 staff with ice swarm and healing zone got me through the whole game, and was brutal even before getting armor that gets you a massive damage buff ).
=====================================
Might be updated.

People were saying about a bunch of cut content while i was browsing forums, hinting at lost potential due to cut content, and that's what this game feels like - had potential, but kinda flopped. Maybe wait for sale if you dont have friends to play with.

Verdict - good-ish, but could've been much better. Darn shame tho.
