This is a great sequel, it improves on the shortcomings of the first game, as far as writing and choice, same great quality and structure. I only have a few negatives though I wouldn't say I'm even half way through, I have about 40 hours in, and unlike the first game, you don't get little collectibles that decorate your captain's cabin, and you don't have any storage on the ship, for junk, armor, or weapons. These were things I liked as far as immersion and RP. I liked how the ship would alter ever so slightly based on the things you found or your choices. You even could gather new things for your companions. None of that exists from what I have gathered, other than some hunting trophies. Other than Dialog, it is very action forward like the first game, but the choices seem a lot more complex. 4/5 and I would have rated the first a 5/5 for me.

*EDIT* AFter playing further I also notice how armor doesn't give you any skill bonuses, which is a little annoying. The first one had a select few clothing/amor items.

The legendary edition fixes a lot of bugs from the origional like the black block figures from two major points in the game. it does have some bugs of it's own with companions not following you, but they still act in combat. The texures are nice and everything really holds up. I know there is one mission that could not translate over, which was the combat station. I really hated doing it in the origional, but miss it now from a compeltionist standpoint. would be nice is they ever found a way to port it.

The game is over shadowed by bad marketing, and some questionable character design choices. That said ths is a mind blowing addition to the dragon age franchise so far. The second major quest you come to is absolutely horrifying and feels like going to the deep roads in origins or the architects hideout. the voice acting is great, but the dialog get repetitive with info, like we are too dumb to remember what was said to us seconds before. the story so far is very good, and combat is fluid. Playing the game yourself is very different from watching you tube videos.

EDIT:

after completing the game here are my final thought. The writing over all made the whole experience bad and the things in the first 20 hours that i was able to look past or forgive continued or got worse. the game suffers from the lack of choice and decisions from previous games, and the writing quality is surprisingly poor for Bioware. They are usually known for some clunky mechanics but incredible writing and story telling. The editing and transitions are also very bad, you are constantly given whiplash from transitions from one location to another, you do not actually travel anywhere.

the repetative info and name dropping of the ancient elven gods is annoying. I feel annoyed playing this game after 124 hours. I enjoyed the ending for what it was. if this wasnt a dragon age game and was a new IP i think it would be better, but it kind of sh**s on what dragon age had been building on, and treats me like i m stupid, just like the witcher netflix producer. Please sell this IP for someone to give us the Dreadwolf game we deserved.

EDIT 1/28/26
No I have not played the games again. But it is currently on EA's big steam sale... it is one of the only games that is 65% off where everything else is near or at 80% off. Even on a huge sale, this game is over $20. They would sell more copies f it was less than $5.

this game really makes you find ways to complete tasks even if you fail one way there will be more, creative ways to do what you want. very re-playable, with a level of quality writing not seen in a lot of modern AAA companies or even TV shows. It's one of those games that feels good to play, and is visually stunning.

This game was one of the biggest disappointments of my life. I cannot believe I paid full price for this. I would give it 2 out of 5 stars, and that is for ship building and travel which I have really been enjoying.

The random generation this is annoying, it's like all the worst parts of multi-player, and all the enemies are the same. The writing is deplorable for 2023. Bethesda has written significantly better stuff than this before, even skyrim is a bit dry but still interesting in places. The dialog is borderline unbearable and uninteresting. The character development is also bad, fallout 4 at least made me care more about the characters than this.

This is an example of a game being too big, to where it feels completely empty and hollow. I don't know how Bethesda can fix this, but it is going to need some meaty dlc.

Please let's Obsidian take over Fallout and elderscrolls.

EDIT: After putting in over 250 hours trying to give this game a fair shot, I have yet to get to NG+ at all or even progress much in the main storyline. This game fizzes out like MMO's for me. I really tried, but I can honestly say this game is making me fall out of love with video games.

it's short and not a huge budget. Has an interesting and compelling story and lore. Spiders is a company I wish had larger teams and biger budgets to be able to really invest in some better writing, and development, and really expand on the volume of game it has. Their games are great, and the stories are interesting and are peppered with intense characters (like Mary), but lack the runtime and writing creativity to really bring life to a story that deserves it. The games textures and environments are oppressing and really fit the vibe of the game well. The spiritual successor expands more on the lore of this world, and fixes some of the issues with Mars War Logs, but like all Spiders games, some how just fall short of getting GOT standards. The entire games can be completely easily in 15 hours, or less, and feels worth it to try different methods of problem solving, There is a lot of density in the short runtime. The romance is lack luster since there is NO TIME contributed to the development of actual romantic relationships, and feels very ham fisted into the game, the only one that does stand out is poor Mary. I wish they had cut the other two options out, and spent more time developing her as a character.
