This game is a wonderful baseline for any city simulator. In fact, it has written the book on how to do it and many more current games are based on it. You have to manage several key resources quickly, and continuously for you towns people to survive. You have to manage the number of houses for them to continue having children for the next generation. And personally I love the style of the entire game.

cons: personally, there are a few things that irk me in the game. You cannot earn achievements with any mod enabled. I suppose this makes sense so people cannot cheat, but very annoying as 90% of mods are cosmetics. There is a plethera of cosmetic and minor change mods that make this game from baseline gameplay to absolutely amazing. I've seen colonial styles, japanese styles, even viking remodels of all the game ellements. There are game changing mods such as removing coal from houses forcing them to continue relying on firewood that is easily replaced/regrown.

I also personally dislike when games like this make things so terribly un-renewable. regardless of your oppinion on the subject, not being able to build on the old quarry ground, and the mine running dry in only 2 years is just insane to me and not at all realistic.

I still will play for a long time on this game, trying to achieve all those complicated achievements (so far about 300h and 0 of them earned- LOL), as well as just enjoying building dif styles of towns with a bunch of mods making it easier and more artsy to play.

I would still definately recommend buying this game, though its older, for anyone who enjoys city sims or town layout building games. This old gem ain't going anywhere for a long time :)
