An actual good zombie survival looter game for both singleplayer and co-op.

Difficulty isn't artificial as literally every zed barring Juggernauts, Blood Ferals (higher difficulty), and Armored Zeds are 1 shot to the head.

It has a more narrative focused mode via Heartland, but I didn't really pay much attention to the narrative there.

Enter this game with the mindset of Project Zomboid and you'll be less disappointed with the minimal narrative in the game overall. The story is more about your survivors and community.

There's also a horde wave survival mode via Daybreak, and it's a fun change of pace every now and then. Not to mention rewards carry over to the main game.

I'd say this is one of my top zombie survival games alongside Project Zomboid. It's like it's arcady and faster paced brother.

Hoping State of Decay 3 is great and allows to make entire communities out of neighborhoods :)

Originally didn't really vibe with the game when I first got it

I have 100% the game now.

Either way, I wish Blind Pests a happy die in a ditch.

Good gameplay BUT lots of content locked behind a paywall.

Also, sunk-cost fallacy, what's that?

Review (March 2025):
The 2.0 is out and now I shall update this review with my thoughts once more.

The Italian Campaign is actually decent now in the gameplay department. Story is still cheesy and campy but eh that goes for a lot of action oriented WW2 games.

DO NOT EXPECT TOTAL WAR because it's entirely it's own thing. Take the time to actually understand and learn how the Italian Campaign is played. The new maps added to the campaign pool also spiced things up and the added addition of 2v2 missions (sadly not co-op, just with AI) is nice.

African Campaign is fine just skip the cutscenes because that campaign is bad at telling a dual story. Very sudden shifts in mood and such.

Sound mixing still needs some tweaking though. The V1 in the new battlegroup for example could use better directional and warning audio. The AI could also use a bit of a tweak but they are serviceable

Haven't heard much coming from the Modding tools front. Still hoping being able to make full conversions is a thing in the future.

Also, for all new players: Your chat is off by default so you cannot see or chat with other players in a game. You can enable it in the options but do know that people who have it off still won't see your messages.

Game is good, regular price is still a bit big in regards to how much you get out of the game and I would say that 40% off and above is a good deal.

Review (March 2024):
It's decent; the state it is now should've been what it was at launch though but hey 1 year isn't that late contrast to how it took 4 years or so for CoH2 to be perceived to be decent.

Definitely a bit pricy though, as of the current state, it's best when half off really. Maybe soon I'd recommend it even at full price but we shall see.

Graphical fidelity is pretty great, as for the design and overall aesthetic though, it's debatable but I personally like it. Clearer models, much more definition within them, textures are good, shadows emphasize the silhouettes well enough, colorful vibes really making it feel like the Mediterranean and African fronts.

Gameplay I'd say at it's fundamental core is good; I mean it's still CoH and I'm not expecting something like Men of War or Gates of Hell. Those games play vastly different in the first place. It is more inline with CoH1 rather than CoH2 though and personally I can vibe with that.

Audio mixing could use some touch ups though and some SFX and VFX as well.

It's fun to play with a couple of pals and hoping the modding scene gets bigger (please I want another Advanced Powers).

Also, I don't mind the historical inaccuracies in the game as I see it similar to BF1. Sure this isn't accurate to how it historically is but at least it feels like it should.

Very intriguing card game, and pretty easy to get into.

Best experienced for yourself.

A free game that has content being added regularly than most paid games
and a workshop that gets updated constantly.

9.5/10 would recommend.
