Guilty Gear Strive was my starting point with fighting games, and at a time it was an amazing one.

Nowadays, if you genuinely care about fighting games, this game is going through a persistent downward spiral in which the people behind it absolutely refuse to listen to the feedback of its most committed players. Hell, they don't even test the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game anymore. High tiers continue to be buffed, low tiers might get buffs but if they do they're almost always monkey pawed with a complete rework of their tools.

The game is going down a path that's constantly reducing the skill ceiling to appeal to newcomers. For the record: appealing to newcomers is a fantastic sentiment. However, when its at the detriment of people who want to improve and play the game at a high level, you're essentially ruining the game for people who actually want to engage with it in a deeper way for people who will likely pick it up, mash buttons with their friends and never look back.

We were promised a balance patch that was intended to reassess the game into something people could enjoy after a year of putting up with unfun RPS, unfair explosive damage, and unbearable abuse of system mechanics. The patch we got shuffled around tools, ripped away depth from beloved characters who were already underperforming (see: Potemkin), and rebalanced every character to be as linear and straight forward as possible, taking away anything that might spook people who shudder at the sight of a quarter-circle.

The game just might be more balanced now (you know, if they actually playtested it). But even if it is, if they're continuing down this path of diminishing the skill ceiling and leaving in the most nonsense, unfun buttons and mechanics without any consideration for an entire playerbase begging for them to just please change the trajectory for once, to shake things up, to give us a patch that doesn't keep the top winners in the top and the bottom winners in the bottom, that is a game I can't recommend.

This game was a lot of good ideas that never go far enough. The game's story doesn't grip at the heart as much as it wants you to, it kinda just tells you "like BT, Cooper and BT like each other, they have a bond", yet they don't give them the space within the gaps of the combat to actually build that bond. The game reinforces that a Titan and their pilot have an inseparable bond, and this bond is what's important for them to function, but BT at the end of the day felt more like the Rotomdex from Pokemon Sun and Moon: it's just a tool that happens to talk to you.

The gameplay is about as fun as shooting people gets: like yeah, its fun, but if you want a movement shooter experience than you could be playing any of its successors which feel a lot less stiff than this game does. The titan gameplay is pretty good and probably where I was having the most fun, but the game seems to prefer you out of BT than anything else.

The characters are dull, the gameplay is fine, but overall I feel like the game wasted my time with good ideas it never had any interest living up to.

This game carries Persona 5's strengths, and then goes and works out on most of it's weaknesses. I actually have to say I enjoyed this game more than 5 itself, which is saying a lot. Phenomenal game, worth every cent.

Early Access Review
This game is a masterpiece. Beyond a masterpiece, actually. It's a game that exceeds what we thought we knew about video games.

Neko Arena is a wonderful Third Person Shooter, comparable to the Gears of War franchise and Fortnite in quality on all fronts. It's visual style, gun play, characters, and diverse range of movement mechanics make this a surprisingly great game.
Neko Arena has many things going for it. For one, it gives you a diverse set of weapons that makes the Doom game's weapons look pathetic in comparison. Easily my favourite weapon was the baseball bat for it's effectiveness and great feeling. The best part about this game's violence is that it has no blood, so this is a game I can honestly recommend to all ages, and maybe could even serve as a great way to bring the family together in these tough times we've been going through.
Next, the visual style feels really unique and distinct from anything I had ever seen. My favourite piece of the game's art style is the main character: a bold heroine that resembles a cat more so than any other character in the game. On that note, characters. The main character, again, is a fantastic role model to all children for being strong, brave, and skilled in battle. Anyone can see her determination and think, "Wow! With enough determination, I can do anything, just like she can!"
Finally, the gameplay is rich and fluid. Jumping is probably the most fun, as you can soar into the sky with just the press of the space key. There's also the roll mechanic, which is very useful for almost all situations.

I honestly cannot recommend this game enough. An EASY 11/10.
