I can recommend this game for one simple reason. It has Quick Saves and Auto-Saves. Which is a massive must have for me. Other than that, the story is good. The people you meet are memorable. The landscapes are beautiful. I love the Pixel Art. The graphics and effects are really done so well. I like the grind and loot and exploration and puzzle solving and learning new tactics to fight enemies. I love how the abilities look and work. You have this eye icon that you can use to scan stuff and find hidden things. When you don't have your weapons drawn. Which is fun.

Thus you are allowed to try and try and try and try until you get it right without being punished although the game is hard. So you'll realise your mistakes and just go on with the game or change your strategy. You are also not punished for dying.

It's a hard game. You need skill. You need to grind and level and work, and strategise and figure things out and solve puzzles and manage your money and skills etc. So it's not an easy game at all. It's not as complex as Stone Shard though.

If you don't buy a map, you have to learn the game map and remember the layout. If you buy a map for the area you are in then you can track where you are. Which i like, makes you learn the areas in the world map until you can get a map, so that's fun for exploration. Once you get a map, you have to manually mark where you found interesting places yourself on that map though, the game does not do it for you. And doesn't show you where places are with names or icons. Giving you a drawn and general idea that there are ruins, but not showing really what those ruins are called or any other info, just here's ruins, i guess, yeah, that looks like a forest, this looks like mountains.

Also it doesn't handle Character Creation quite the way i was expecting. Which is a shame. As i would like to do things a bit differently. It's like Skyrim in the way of you level up what you want to be. Not how much you use something, but if you want to fight with an Axe, you can go for a strength and Axe build and you can go a for a Beserker or Tanky Axe build, but you do this agility by dodging manually. That's kinda one thing that i'm struggling with. Do i love manually dodging or do i want it to happen automated like with a dice roll.

The reason for my confusion is, you can basically be a warrior or a ranger. Warrior goes into spear, or axe or sword. But then it also goes into single sword with or without shield, as second ability cannot be used of main weapon if you have a shield as right click blocks. Then Spear and shield or no shield, and Axe. Axe is always 2-handed. So no single axe and shield, no 2-handed swords. No 2-handed spears.

So its weird. Ranger can be a rogue, or a Hunter. Rogue goes into poisons, and Hunter uses traps. But this isn't automated, you decide. But mostly the weapon decides or the weapons abilities you learn decide. You can have Bows and Slingshots. No Crossbows. Also dual daggers. You have to weapon groups. A and B. So in A you can have dual daggers and in B you can have a bow. Or an Axe in A and a sword and shield in B. Or a spear in A and an Axe in B.

But then again you can mix and match all of these as nothing is class locked or skill locked really. Strength doesn't influence what weapon or armour you can use. Dexterity also doesn't influence weapons or armour. Only, the damage if yo level up strength or Crit if you level up Dexterity. That's it. Mind or Focus is level up very late in the game with a trainer. The same as strength or Dex. And Focus is used for abilities, spell scrolls, dodging or blocking with a shield.

Weapons instead depend on the total sum of all your skills. Which is unique in the game. So if you get an Axe, and the total points it needs to be used is lets say 60, then Strength, plus Dexterity, plus Focus gives you a total, and if that together makes up 60 points, then you can use the weapon. But mostly you wont ever level up Mind (Focus) early game, so those points will come from either Strength or Dexterity.

Want to be a full mage? You cannot. You have runes, or scrolls, that is it. And they are single use only, and very expensive and scarce. Mind which increases Focus is used to execute a scroll or an ability at a certain amount of focus, and weapons generate focus when attacking.

So... i don't know, i'm not crazy about any of this really. I would like a full mage class. A full warrior class, a full hunter class. And then to be able to Evolve those classes. Like a Warrior could be a Paladin, a Barbarian, a Knight, etc. Same with Mages or Hunters. The character building is very basic.

You get 4 Learning Points or Skill points per level up and 5 health. That's it. Want more Focus, good luck. Run out of scrolls, well, now you are a warrior. Or hunter. You then after getting LP, have to go to a trainer, to be able to assign the LP. You cant just assign it yourself. Stuck in a far away place, you will have to just wait to assign the points. Sorry.

What i would like changed. More defined classes, but still keeping it kinda loose, so if You want to be a mage with an Axe you can. Maybe with penalties. But you can. Maybe dual classes. Ability to increase focus with level ups. Magic abilities that you learn and cast with focus. Not simply scrolls only. Better skills for builds. Give me a Barbarian or Beserker with x2 1-handed axes, rage, charge, abilities that generate rage and health while fighting. Have a shield? Well then don't let it use up my dodge, let the shield have it's own upgrade-able Stam bar that gets used up. So if i am a Paladin, i can use Focus and Stam better. I want health regeneration abilities. Better Gear. More Gear. Better enemy variety. More enemies. Better looking armor, and weapons, and have them completely change their looks. Instead of an Axe that keeps looking like a generic axe. Better magic protection early on, or a way to combat magical creatures with maybe a defensive bubble. As Harpies are impossible to fight even after joining a faction, as the magic just kills you.

There's just a lot that feels weird, and limited with Character creation, and character development and building. You just don't have a lot of possibilities to make something unique. It's really watered down.

All in all it has it's faults. Don't get me wrong. But it is really fun, addicting, an captivates you into the world. And you can really feel how you go from super weak, to stronger, and then super weak again, and stronger, and you can still even being a high level be crushed by enemies. You never feel OP for very long until you get beaten up again. Keeping it challenging. And you can really mess up if you make silly mistakes or don't think before you do, and i had to load some old saves because of things i did not know was a thing, and then when they became a thing i had actually made a big mistake that would've been a struggle to overcome, so i loaded and had to play an hour again over to get back to where i was, but you can leave it or load, but there really is not a lot of hand holding. But there are Saves.

I still think the game can use a lot of patching and balancing and reworking. To make things more fleshed out. Definitely no bugs found so far, that's really god, very stable game, but there was one part that was super confusing which i though was a bug but the game just did something, didn't tell me, and i had to advance for me to realise that it went and did something that i could only d after getting past a certain part. But it happened only one, and it wasn't a game breaking bug, it was just something missed that should been explained better. But i figured it out.

All in all i recommend this game. I have over 70 hours in it, and still not done and i love getting further and further and better and learning more of the lore and exploring more of the world. It's really a fun game, although a bit weird and different than what i'm used to playing.

One of my favorite games of all time. Mad max is one of the best movie series and I love it. Best movies. Best story. Most influential. I will play this again. I just wish these guys would've released a second game. And third. This game had and has so much potential. We have a fallout series now. Why can't we also get a Mad Max series. This has explosions, car building, character progression, Mad music, awesome battles and a massive open world full of Mad Max goodies and lore.

This ticks all the boxes. I am so happy i don't have to constantly eat and drink to stay alive. Now water is for cooking, and food is for energy which you can use to heal yourself when sleeping. Brilliant mechanic and doesn't frustrate me. Yes there is durability, but its done right here. You get anomalies that repair equipment, and skills that makes repairing them easy and fun. Also crafting just ties so well into everything. Its a great skill. Every single skill is important and that makes it a challenge what to level up. But it feels like i can just live in the world, farming, and levelling up, and looting. Its a fun game that allows me to live the stalker lifestyle. And its in my favourite top down isometric format. The Inventory is tough to sort and your weight caps you to not carry everything around, but feels realistic. Stamina ties in very well with the carry capacity. Its as tough as Stalker, so many anomalies, and monsters and treasure hunting. Survival. And managing everything so you survive through this hell.

A sleeper forever. Drifting. Faceless. Through time. Only a copy of who you are. A trapped dream. Just a memory. A silent cage of potential. Stars touch your voiceless scream. The vastness looms. So many choices. You touch lives. Change them. Where do you belong. Where do you go. Who are you. Alone. Lost. A far away light pulsing. The splinter of a memory. Desolate. Stranded. A Beached whale. A whisper on the wind. Solemn. Happy. Sad. Nothing. But something. Your life a single point in time. Corroded vastness. Overwhelming. An Existence. A fabrication. A thread so thin. So many threads. So many lost souls. After all this. The end too comes. Each one a grain of sand. Just like endless diamonds glisten in the starlight. Though made of the same. Nothing ever really changes but change itself. Time flies by. My body dies. The silent net trapping this soul. No more smiles. No more words. Invisible hands take me away. This is my final goodbye.

So Hellslave. Its a grim dark fantasy game. We don't really get enough games with in setting. Its dark. Its gloomy. Its visceral. Amazing artwork. Dirty and grungy. I really like the story, and the setting. I think its easy to say bad things about a game. But what about the good things. This game does have a lot going for it. I'm really enjoying it. Playing till the early morning hours just to get more story.

Why do i enjoy this game. The Artwork, just wow on the Artwork. Its really beautiful. Sound design. The ability to choose who you play as. Who you serve when building your character decides what route you take when playing through the game making it unique to your choices. The awesome abilities you get and decides when and how to use them in combat. Exploration. The challenge of building my ultimate warrior. The enemies are well designed and look amazing. There is plenty of loot to find with different names and artwork. They do change how your paper doll looks. The map is beautiful.

Things i feel that can be improved upon. Yeah. Sure. There have been a few things that pop up as i play this that ive thought, hmmm, could be a bit tweaked. Music variety. More encounters in dungeons. Most of the encounters are just random loot boxes where i rarely get attacked or surprised by something. Id like more story encounters. Those encounters can then give you loot for completing them. I'm not mad about the crafting system. And im also confused about the colours or loot. What is the worst loot, and what is the best loot. As sometimes the Rarity of an item is high, but the selling price is low, and the abilities of the item aren't that great. So i tend to keep what i like and now what is the rarest. As the rare items are sometimes worse than the less rare items. The combat is kinda predictable. I run through all my skills and abilities the same in each battle, and then just mash the attack button and heal. Theres not a lot of diversity or randomness to battles. you never get to see your character. Only as a paper doll. Not in combat, not while traversing the map, not in Town. Not while exploring dungeons. Also loot. Why am i getting 90% mana items and im a Warrior? I want things that improve my crit, and bleed, and melee power. Not rings and talismans and armour that boost my mana. A warrior is a brute strength guy, he doesn't care for mana skills or items. But i keep getting them as if the game is trying to tell me something.
Ive fought the demon i aligned with in the beginning, when i created my character, but he never admits to me being his disciple. As if he doesn't even know about me. And once a demon lord is killed, i can still pray to them at a shrine? Thats a bit weird. Are the killed or only banished and still grant prayers? The map is a bit under populated with places to visit and things to do. Skills should also be unique to the demon you choose. And not just be the same skill tree, but randomised.

Yeah so, that's my small review for now. Yeah the Cons seem more than the Pros. But don't let that stop you, this is still well worth it to play and i am gripped to level up, explore, loot dungeons, fight demons, and learn more about the story. Sure there are technical stuff and some balancing and other things to smooth out, but its a pretty fun game. And i think there has gone a lot of thought into it. Definitely a very cool setting that more game developers should look into.

Without proper mods this game sucks. Anniversary or not. No ENB so 11 year old graphics. Boring and bland gameplay. What do you really get with the Anniversary edition you cant get with free mod packs? Nothing. A bunch of Nexus mods that don't really add anything. And yet they ask you money. Where you can just us Wabbajack and a mod pack. As they game is, its old, and worn out.

*EDIT*

Okay, i'm putting this up top. Just finished the game so wanted to write this above the original review before i forget.

You know how i gave this a positive review? I need to somehow change that to my favourite game of the year review. Its been ages since i played something so free. Yes, it feels free. You feel free when you are playing. It's liberating to fly through space so effortlessly and free. And in harmony with space and your ship. I've done some amazing tricks here. At incredible speed. And i have fought amazing battles that were huge. Some tough enemies that had me struggling.

But it was always fun. It was always just enough that you could feel yourself grow. And progress just like Nara. Is it Nara or Naran. I'm sure its Nara, but she was called Naran as well. Shes an amazing character. All of the guys in the game were. And i love the voice acting. Amazing production value.

I have been looking for a game like this for a very very long time. I almost never finish games. They bore me. This. This never bored me. I finished this. And i was crying at the end. Just because it was so amazing. The whole game just came together and blew my mind. All of the hours i put into this. The exploration. The missions. The people i met, and the friends i made, and the amazing skills i got to test out. I'm not a bad gamer. I could do it. And i usually suck, but with this game it resonated with me. We just clicked.

There is no other way to describe it. It was just a mind blowing game. The ending and the points leading up towards the ending. Everything was in Chorus. The whole story, such an amazing story. But while i'm always a story driven player, and a game seriously needs one to keep me interested, the game itself plays so smooth, so fluid, so effortless.

It will forever be in my heart and my mind. And on my top games of the year. I have so many games on Steam. But this was a jewel. A find of a lifetime. And i'm so sad its finished.

*END OF EDIT*

If you liked Freelancer, Elite Dangerous, No Man's Sky, Everspace, Babylon 5, Battle Star Galactica, or anything similar, i can promise you, you will like this. Smooth gameplay, computer resource friendly and runs amazing on my PC, amazing graphics, easy to fly ships, works perfectly with the keyboard and mouse. I have done some amazing maneuvers with the skills i got in the game, i love the ships and weapons upgrade system, the cut-scenes and story is amazing, the music is epic, i love the fast paced fighting, strewn between main and side missions are random missions. I'm never bored. Seriously cant get enough of this game. Top notch voice acting. Highly recommended.

So yeah. It is buggy sure. But bugs get fixed. The game has a ton of heart. And there is a lot of cool character progression in it. Feel good moments. And super interesting developments. It is honestly i feel worth the money and time i've sinked into it. Would i buy it again if i could, hell yes i would. It reminds me so much of all my previous games and sci-fi movies that's been a part of my life. And its become something i cant wait to play.
