A cool slayer's testament from DOOM 2016 before we begin :)

Slayer's Testament I (These are actually relevant to this game too :) since DOOM 2016 takes place sometime after the events of the first game.

In the first age, in the first battle, when the shadows first lengthened, one stood. I have played DOOM religiously for so many years and I never get tired of this franchise. I know what I am there for when I start booting up some DOOM, I am not there for a serious story or anything serious really, DOOM has always been about the fun gameplay, fast paced combat and of course the legendary soundtrack inspired by various Thrash Metal artists of that decade. I am very proud of being from a generation when DOOM was a big deal, and I am certainly glad to see ID software keeping it up to date both for old school fans and newcomers alike.

This one included in my review my favorite, it is a cover version of it but it is so calming, beautiful, haunting and completely different from the normal tone found throughout most of the DOOM levels. DOOM's original soundtrack was inspired heavily by 90s Thrash Metal artists like Pantera, Metallica, Slayer and Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath to name a few, so yes I adore this soundtrack :) I always have.
I reviewed DOOM a very long time ago and I think I didn't really say much new about it since DOOM is not a game that can really be said that much about that hasn't already been said, this game is iconic and it is a legendary game. It is as much tied to my own culture as it is a piece of legendary early FPS history, it is a game that revolutionized how we think about FPS, and while it may not look like much by today's standards, it is a certainly a game where you can still feel its impact in modern FPS games today. DOOM + DOOM II is the package I was hoping for since I complained in my original DOOM review from years ago that I wish DOOM 1 and 2 was included in one package since you had to buy them seperately at first, which was a lot of money to get both games at the time. DOOM 1 and 2 still has a very dedicated and active community, especially the modding scene. The good thing is when you buy DOOM 1 + 2 you not only get the base games, you also get access to content from the modding community and you even get Sigil, the legendary mod made by John Romero himself, I really do not complain about this package, well done ID software!

Demons has a lot of stories around them, the succubus is one such demon that has been talked about in various folklore and religions.

So what is a succubus?: A Succubus is a female demon said to prey upon the lifeforce and energy of the male or mate. I knew I had to play this game since I played Agony which was also set in Dante's inspired Inferno, and I do like the artistic value of it, it is a very artistic depiction of hell and certainly one that can give many nightmares for years to come. Now as for the story in Succubus I am not gonna go into too much detail, but I am a big fan of the gameplay and different swords and weapons you can equip for your demon. The only problem is actually there are too many weapons to pick but I think I have my favorites so far.

Well it is a bit more of a power fantasty :) In agony you were a human soul sent to hell and sure you had abilities but you were not powerful by any stretch of the word. I liked that in the context of agony since you were a human and not a demon, your soul was new to hell and had to learn its chaos. I also like how there are references to Dante's Inferno as you play I expected as much of course, but what I didn't expect was a fourth wall break where it completely flips to script and just reminds you how ridiculous that is that Dante would fight his way through hell. In hell the demons can only be defeated by very strong souls and even then only if they fight together. I like this shift and I really enjoyed Agony because it was not about being powerful, it was about learning the rules in a very unforgiving world and cold survival, that was exactly what I liked about Agony, it depicted Dante's Inferno in a very beautiful and cruel way. Now as for Succubus you are a demon, you already know hell and you are already equipped with power to crush plenty of other demons and human souls alike, so in actuality hell is beautiful in this game, it was already spooky and creepy in Agony but I feel this game does it a little better at least when it comes to the power fantasy, it is still great to have that power to slay demons.
