Seriously, this game is amazing and worth every penny, especially on sale. don't let people discourage you in any way about it. you'll see them everywhere, complaining about the game being horrendously flawed (ironically, this group of people always have hours in the thousands) or pulling out the "list of things sean has promised us". if there's anything that these two groups have in common, its that they are completely unable to see the good side of things. even if this "good side" is constantly in their, and everyone else's, plain sight.

i do understand though, the fair complaints and arguments besides those who don't see the game for what it is. indeed, the game's mechanics are shallow and lack complexity. indeed though, the game may look like it, but you shouldn't expect some hyper-realistic space-sim-to-end-all-space-sims. it's not a perfect masterpiece, nor is it the enormous game that everyone in the HypeTrain.tm expected it to be.

*but*. that isn't what No Man's Sky is about.

the point of No Man's Sky is to relax, and have a journey. the devs didn't make any of the systems complicated, even though it’d be a very easy thing to accomplish. that’s a purposeful decision; that’s not what they want you to look for when you play No Man’s Sky. the game's all about simplicity and eye-candy which both take you away from the stressful thoughts of managing complex systems. it offers you many, many small yet sufficiently interesting options that you can chip at when you feel like it, and otherwise lets you do whatever the hell you want.

this lack of solidity, and therefore abundance of freedom, is what No Man’s Sky is intended to be played for, and is what splits it apart from everything else. it’s what makes the experience feel special and fun. yes, it may feel empty to those who look for a purpose to be handed to them. but for those who create their own purpose and go with the flow of it, this game is great. it is a pure, devout sandbox, and this is what you should expect if you intended to dive deeply into No Man’s Sky. it absolutely is a beautiful, enticing space simulator that will draw you in as soon as you realise what its true purpose is.

I am nominating this game for the Labor of Love award. sean spent so much effort on this title, and it's insane. he's still not stopping with these free updates, even if he's done much more for us than we'd ever expected. It really is a love for the game and its growth that keeps him coming back to it. and since its release, not once had Sean asked for any extra money, whether it be in-game currency for cosmetics (we have Quicksilver missions for that, no cash involved) nor DLCs. it truly is a Labor of Love.
