Shady Part of Me

Shady Part is a 2D/3D platformer game featuring three unique characters who communicate with each other: a little girl named Alice, her Shadow, and the Doctor who guides her on her journey in this well-designed game. Without giving away any spoilers, I found the atmosphere, controls, soundtracks, cartoony graphics, and puzzles to be perfect. I would even go so far as to say that this game has one of the best video game soundtracks imaginable. However, I have two minor issues with the game. Firstly, there is no support for macOS, nor is there cloud gaming, as mentioned on SteamDB. Nevertheless, this is not a significant issue for me, so I can overlook it. Secondly, there is a lack of storytelling in the game, if it's fair to say so, because the game doesn't effectively explain what is happening to Alice and other aspects of the plot. I have a couple of theories about this: either Shady Part took the same approach as SUPERHOT and allowed players to form their own theories about the story (which is a positive thing, don't get me wrong), although I'm not entirely sure because in earlier builds, Alice was designed to have schizophrenia. Alternatively, my second theory is that since this game was initially made for a "Game Jam" (if I recall correctly) and took four years of development to release, the developers may have struggled with developing a cohesive story but included elements that could be interpreted as storytelling. I'm not entirely sure which theory is true, but regardless, I've explained why I love this game so much and why it is my all-time favorite video game ever, yet at the same time, I can't help but feel bad because of how underrated it is. Despite its brilliance, it seems to have slipped under the radar for many gamers, which is unfortunate considering the amount of effort and creativity that went into its development. However, I find solace in knowing that those who do discover it are in for a truly memorable experience.
