If you are a fan of games in the ANNO series I think that you will enjoy this one. Though it is similar in some ways to Anno, this game is more local and in some ways more detailed. My first play through was a complete failure because I couldn't get my people to build a wood splitter. I think this is because, I waited too long and the weather was so dangerous outside, they wouldn't / couldn't do it.

I am looking forward to learning more about this game and getting better at it.

Here is a video of the disastrous first play through. :)

I have been following this developer and I am really looking forward to seeing their vision for this game come to fruition.

I am enjoying getting to know my odd little group of villagers. They all have different personalities. Harold... oh Harold, lazy lazy Harold. Then there is Fernando. The ladies love Fernando. You need to manage these people and put them in jobs that are best suited to them. For example a strong person for the lumberjack or a miner is what you want to do. One of my characters is a barfly, so she works in the tavern as a waitress. (She is there anyway, so put her to work!) If you have a character that is a tradesman with high charisma, they should work in the merchant stand. They can get more money this way. Then there is Fernando. You get a boost if Fernando is working with the ladies.

I also love building and designing my village. Once I get something built that I like, I can easily upload it to share on the Steam Workshop. Not everyone likes to build, so this let's those people subscribe to a building made by another player to put in their village. The Steam Workshop is active and there are tons of player made buildings to try in your village. You should go look at what people are doing.

The Winter 2025 update added a player home. Now there is a lord's manor that you can rest in after a busy day managing your kingdom.

https://steamproxy.com/app/3372710/workshop/

There are also other NPC villages that you can discover on the map. The towns now have people living in them with the latest Winter update (Dec 2025). You can also discover old ruins that are currently inhabited by brigands.

Multiplayer is currently in Alpha phase. Studio 369 are stress testing it with up to 10 players. This currently is peer to peer via IP address. They hope to have this complete Jan 2026.

The villagers all have different skills and you have to decide who to put into different jobs. The economy relies on your villagers making products that you then sell to your village's visitors. The best villager for the job helps this to all go smoothly. The visitors want more than goods when they come to your village. They like to visit the local sites, like taverns, churches and places to relax. I have a nice fire pit with benches in a beautiful glade for them to use.

There are 2 new professions that were added with the winter 2025 update. Weaver and Tailor. With these you can make padded armor and reinforced leather armor. If you need more armor protection, this update also added chainmail armor at the blacksmith station. There are also all kinds of weapons and tools that can be crafted at the blacksmith station.

There is also combat. The combat at the moment is from brigands threatening your villagers and wild animals. This has been updated in the Wildlands 1 update (Nov 2025) and includes a stamina system, blocking, dodging, light attack combos and a power attack. This is an improvement over the previous combat. I do feel that there is still some room for improvement.

Every now and then a villager will have a problem (mini quest) that you need to help them with. You get 3 options on how to handle the problem and then you have to do it. Depending on the outcome you get a reward or punishment.

There are some deer in the game that you can hunt for meat and skins. This has been expanded in the Wildlands 1 update (Nov 2025) to include wild boar, rabbits, wolves, and bears. There is now a hunter class so your villagers can help you gather meat and furs. You can just grab a bow and do your own hunting if you want.

The sound and weather effects are done well. I love the thunderstorms.
Also, the game has some great music. I love the slower relaxing music the best. This link will let you hear the music and see a storm. The storm is at 1:20 (I really like the lightning flashes that light up the mountain range).

The Studio 369 team have been very active and releasing feature, balancing, and bug fix updates.

Here is the latest update. Winter December 2025.

The game is early access so there are sometimes issues, but Studio 369 are very involved with their community and listen. They are a small team trying to do something really great. I for one would rather support this, than some AAA slop designed for maximum profit.

I am a big fan of this sort of game, and I am going to come along for the ride and see where this all goes. I think that we are all in for some good old medieval fun!

I liked the humor in this game, especially all the commercials that come on your video phone in your base. You now have other planets to go to. I finished it in 17 hours, but there was still more to do and find. If you get on a ship to go home, the game ends. Don't do that if you want to keep playing.

This game is an evolution of KCD1 in all the best ways. Warhorse took what they had and tweaked it without leaving behind what was great about KCD1. So many devs these days lose their way with a sequel or a next game trying to maximize profit by making a game more accessible/generic. Warhorse did make the game better and more accessible but did not compromise their vision of what KCD is.

If you liked KCD1, then you can't go wrong here. This one is better.
If you weren't sure about the first one, then you may like this one better. It is still Kingdom Come Deliverance, just a better version with better tutorials.

Combat: Once you learn Master Strike with swords, I honestly see no need for combos and the combat is pretty easy. Still fun, but not as brutal.

Story: Better than the first. No spoilers. :)

Immersion: Better than the first. The world is alive and people are way more reactive to you. So many conversations and actions going on around you that have nothing to do with you. The wold feels alive in towns and in nature. I love playing with good headphones just to listen to the forest sounds and the rain. Play the way you want to play. Be a hero or be a villain, or like me, somewhere in the middle.

Bugs: I have had some NPC AI weirdness but very little.

Performance: I have a mid range computer and I am running on high and I stay above 60fps even in Kuttenburg. Compared to other games I have played recently (Avowed) this game is very well optimized and performs great.

Value: Easily a hundred hours or more of living in a very well made immersive world. I finished the game with 169 hours and still have hardcore mode and the coming DLC to do. Also, Warhorse is adding MOD support early this time so that community will do some great stuff.

This is what an RPG should be like. Fantastic game and worth buying. Stop settling for AAA trash that is just okay.

Addendum:

I just started playing again in Hardcore mode since all the DLC is out and I love this game even more the second time around. Don't miss this experience.

I was sent this game as a curator and it was described by one of the artists as, "Limbo with a splash of color." I loved the game Limbo. If you are a fan of Limbo style games, this one does not disappoint.

The puzzles have been moderate difficulty. Once you see the solution, it seems so simple. Sometimes you just need to walk away for a few minutes and come back with a fresh perspective.

The graphics are all hand painted and beautiful.

The music is moody and adds to the atmosphere of the painted scenes.

If you prefer to use a controller, like I do, it works perfectly. I have been using an Xbox controller.

I am having fun with the game and I think if you want something a little more artsy and different, you will too.

I am making solution videos if you need some help.

There is something magical about this game. The co-op play is excellent and demands attention so you don't obliterate your own team. I love the social commentary that the game is making as well. "Managed Democracy!"

I also like the dungeon master feel to the game. The game changes and one minute your side is on the offensive and the next you are attacked by the enemy in another sector that demands your attention.

Gun-play is very good and a wide variety of weapons and call in weapons strikes.

Armor and load-outs are varied enough that you can find the type of Helldiver that you want to be. From sneaky to tank, you can build it.

Graphics are varied depending on the planet and very well done.

Voice acting is funny and very well done.

A cool example of this is the time the enemy had control of a MECH Factory and your PATRIOTS had to go get it back. Once this mission was completed by the community, you could use the MECH for free in your next campaign because you now have control of the MECH Factory. This sort of dynamic changing game-play keeps things from getting stale and makes you want to come back to the game to see what is going on in the war for LIBERTEEE!

If you like shooters, you should give this one a try. It is different and very fun. You feel like you are part of something bigger that all the other gamers are helping to make happen.

All time favorite game.

I bought this game a long time ago on the Commodore 64. It was the first game I bought and still my favorite. I then bought it on the Commodore Amiga, original Xbox, this version, and the iPad version. If they make an updated version, I will buy that as well.

I have yet to find a better Pirate game and I have played a bunch of them. It isn't graphically flashy but the charm and game play is where this one shines.

I love the commitment to quality that Larian has made for this game and the games they have made in the past. The story, graphics, massive amounts of options, combat, etc... they are all great. I have been a gamer my whole life and this is by far one of my favorite gaming experiences.

If you don't get the result you were wanting with a dice roll, my advice is to just live with it and see what happens instead of reloading from a save. Larian has put in so much content that few people will see. I have had many surprises and good times by just playing the game, taking the bad rolls with the good ones.

So much incredible content and detail in this game.

***** Post first play through comments. *****

Absolutely love this game and am going to try another play through with another character.
Great story!

The ending did have some hiccups here and there. There were some jittery cut scenes in one part, some weird camera things happened during the BIG battle, and there were long pauses between some parts in the cut scenes. Nothing game breaking, but some things that could definitely use some polish.

I still think this is one of the best games that I have ever played.

I have over 700 hours on this game and can easily say that it is by far one of my favorite games. I would describe it as a more adult themed Minecraft full of Norse mythology. The graphics are uniquely beautiful and the weather/lighting effects are at times, intense.

You start out with nothing and you slowly build up your gear to better help you survive the creatures and the weather. When you have some basic leather armor, a good weapon or two, some energizing food, and you find the spawn location, it is time for you to take on the first boss, Eikthyr. Before he will appear, you need to figure out how to spawn the giant powerful stag that stomps and shoots lightning. Once beaten, he will drop an antler pick ax for each person that is present to fight him. This pick ax allows you to mine the copper ore found around the world and start your journey into the bronze age of weapons and armor.

This is the progression system in the game. Each new thing that you pick up potentially unlocks something new for you to craft. Each boss that you beat will give you something that is vital to proceed and get stronger. These bosses live in their own biom that adds new challenges to the game. As you beat the bosses, the next boss sends out minions to take you down along with many of the other creatures that you have already faced.

At the time of writing this review, the latest biom is The Mistlands. There are more coming with the next one being called The Ashlands. This game is not complete but already has polish and tons to offer.

I could go on and on about this game but you should just see for yourself. The fun for me has been in the unexpected discoveries and building great halls for me and my band of Vikings.
