Honestly, Destiny 2 at the beginning was lackluster. It's improved a lot ever since Forsaken came out, though, and I would say Warmind was also a pretty good DLC but Forsaken & Shadowkeep just knocked it out the park.
Plus, now the base game it's F2P! Might as well give it a try
