Echo is a game for latex fetishists, and it's about orb magic, omnipotent hall monitors, macklemore, and the dangers present in the mocap industry.

More seriously, Echo combines two of my favorite things, the ornately gilded alien hotel room from 2001 and doppelgangers, in a real "two great tastes that taste great together" type scenario. The gameplay basically involves trying to get through a gilded MC Escher type giant labyrinth while trying to evade clones of yourself that can steal your abilities for a short time. When this is "crossing a pool of water" and "using elevators" this is less of a problem, but when it's "shooting guns" or "sprinting after you to kill you" that's significantly more of a challenge, and the game becomes about avoiding your clones until they forget how to do those things. All in all it's a formula that makes for some really good stealth gameplay without having to resort to a big unkillable monster that can only be beat by hiding in lockers, like most other horror games since Amnesia.

I disagree with their plot decisions, but the writing in this game seems like they hired someone with actual talent, which is refreshing. The ending was bad. It really could've ended about a minute earlier, and it would've been much better. Maybe there's room for a sequel, but there's sure not going to be one, because the dev went out of business. I don't know if anyone even heard about this game.

This has to be my best horror game this year, and you should BUY IT.

Total playtime: 11.5 hours, but I got all the unlocks, which take significantly more time than just finishing.

Retro City Rampage is more like Robot Chicken: The Game. From the start of the game there's a ♥♥♥♥-ton of tired references. I was still in the "GTA Tutorial" type missions, and I got bored. Borderlands: The Second also has a bunch of boring references (the same ones, in a couple cases) but at least it spaces them out throughout the story. They aren't actually painful to experience.
