It's a pretty solid game that still stands the test of time, with pleasing gore FX and a wide selection of things to use. Additionally there is plenty of room for the skilled and newbie alike with many playstyles. As a metalhead I appreciate the sound tracks, although as an elitist I cannot for the life of me enable the vocals without cringing. (the vocals can be toggled in the settings). The instrumentals are reminiscent of Dethklok and Doom, whereas the vocals are pretty "core." And for once, this is a game that will not coddle you, it will insult and make fun of you repeatedly.

The premise can be repetitive, but there's enough things to explore such as weaponry, challenges, and perks to see past it. There are regular updates, however these are usually just seasonal cosmetic effects and items. The mods are rather pointless, as you must join a 3rd party hosted server to utilize them, and usually those have 50,000 mods loaded so after waiting an hour to download them you're stuck with 1fps on the average machine; the ability to host a local server through the in game menus and select a couple mods for it would be revolutionary, however I think the game will never see such an update this far into it.

And finally, the cashgrab aspect. Its not too bad actually, you can get certain items from doing certain tasks outside of the game, owning other games, or by simply grinding. The weapons pack is worth it if you play often. However those weapons, and others from the aforementioned paths of unlocking, can be used by players without them as long as they are in a lobby with someone who does have them. (Shown as "Shared Content" in game). Other than that, cosmetics, crates, keys, emotes, and what not are usually things you either have to get lucky to unlock, scower the steam marketplace, or pay like 2-5CAD for.
