I need to stress something at the start of this review. Gal Guardians: Demon Purge is not a Metroidvania even though it clearly feels like it was meant to be. I'm sure as you play through this you will notice this as well and the game would have done itself a favor by being a full Metroidvania...that being said...

Gal Guardians: Demon Purge is a fun take on 2D Castlevania. The swapping between both girls reminds me of Portrait of Ruin and the difficulty...it's average and fair I would say. The game itself has 3 endings. 2 of the Endings can be gotten pretty easily but the alternate (3rd) ending is quite frustrating earning without a guide since, once again the game suffers from now going full Metroidvania + having no real map system. However the game itself is honestly incredibly fun!

I love the level designs, music, enemies and the boss fights. Heck the sub weapons are really nice as well the further in you make it! You will even be given a chance to upgrade all of your sub weapons by the end of the game which can make traversal even more fun! Now yes of course the game has some fan service as it is set in the Gal Gun universe but I would argue it does not have that much outside of...uhh the (3rd ending) and all it's silliness.

Yes the game has it's problems but overall I had way more fun with this game than I had frustration so I recommend this for fans of old school Castlevania with a touch of modern as well.
