If I ever get another game it's because I'm curious about it, not because I'm tired of Factorio. I know there are many excellent mods, some full overhauls, which can make the game even more entertaining, I just don't need them yet. I'm approaching 6000 hours in standard play and the entertainment has no end in sight. I already have more plans of "what next" than I have time for, even if I didn't have a job. The money spent on this was a good choice, and I've even gifted my mom and sister a game. I know my mom will love it more than she liked Minecraft and TrainStation2 combined.

My advice: play the free demo, and play it long. If you like how the game plays enough to put several hours into the demo, you can't go wrong with a full purchase. The demo is merely some contrived scenarios, which are also the tutorials in the full game, so it's not one kind of game in the demo and another in the real one. You just cannot take the research as far, or get all the different building in the demo.

Updated advice: if money is tight and you like the demo, consider playing it for the practice for quite a while. They are working on an expansion which is looking to be epic, and your money would be better spent on the expansion if your budget only allows one shot at the price. If you can, it's well worth the price of both to get the game now and enjoy it for the months before the expansion. But, if things are tight, the results ought to be worth the wait.
