2024 review:
Warframe tastes like home.

Warframe has genuinely never let me down.

Warframe has been a friendly face... A warm fire waiting after a chilling blizzard... It is hard to really explain what this game means to me. The gameplay systems are the perfect balance of complexity. The power fantasy might trivialize the content, but it's you who does it, and there is something to that. The story is the most scattered, drawn out nonsense while simultaneously resinating deeply with my core. The grind is everlasting through time and that is okay.

Even when I take a very long break and feel overwhelmed with new things it doesn't take long to get back into it and realize it's the same yet even better now.

Sometimes when I walk through steel path missions as an invulnerable death machine that melts things that enter a 100 foot radius of me, I forget it took me 2000 hours over years of input and learning and growth. On both sides. I cannot speak to what it would be like to start that journey now.

Warframe and I have both grown and it just makes me happy to see we're both older, wiser, more actualized versions of ourselves.

Warframe is just something else.

2018 review:
Warframe's pretty good if you have a few hundred hours to spare. It takes a bit of time to have your roster of warframes, weapons of mods to play with different builds. The core gameplay can be very hit or miss, because you'll be going in missions, jumping through them and heading into missions that are essentially the same.

New features are added frequently, but built layers upon layers. Instead of refining old systems, DE tends to add more new systems and a lot of them have a bit of spaghetti quality to them now. If an old system does need review, DE comes back in a few months or years and releases a rework that may or may not fix what was wrong with it. Sometimes your goal might be to spend a few hours fishing to satisfy the requirements of the progression instead of following the core gameplay.

I might seem dissatisfied, but the game is still fun.

It does free to play right, you can trade with other players for the premium currency. You frequently get up to 75% platinum discounts for daily logins. Generally, people buy platinum and prime access because they want to and not because the game is really holding anything back. The game has that effect. And in that way it's charming. It makes me wish other games let me customize things as effortlessly. It's one of the games where endgame challenges and rewards can be lacking, so the real endgame is fashionframe™.

If there's one thing Digital Extremes has it is ambition. They're not afraid to make huge additions and changes to make sure there's always new things happening in their game.
