This is absolutely a game made for people who want more challenge out of Hollow Knight or similar games. If you are interested in Silksong, but haven't played any games in the genre, you should try working your way up the ladder with increasingly difficult platformers, metroidvania's, and souls-like's. Get used to tight platforming and combat. If that doesn't sound fun, then this game and others like it may not be up your alley.

It's definitely weird to recommend playing other games in a positive review, to the point where I recommend gatekeeping yourself from this one if you don't like those. This is partially due to Steam's simplistic review system, which is entirely based on the question, "do I recommend this game?" Well, yeah, but I don't recommend it for everyone. Not every game has (or should have) the goal of being recommendable to everyone.

If you did get Silksong, and didn't enjoy it, and don't think you'll recommend it, there's no reason not to give it a thumbs down. Don't feel bad about sharing your experience with a game, whether it's positive or negative, even if it's someone else's favorite or most hated game.

Anyhow, this is one of my favorite games of all time now. I'm excited for whatever Team Cherry cooks up next. Maybe I should go actually beat Hollow Knight and play its DLC while I wait.

just the right amount of shapes

After 100%'ing both the story mode and steam achievements (which I rarely do), I think I can say I've enjoyed this game immensely. I'd even go as far as to call it my favorite 3d platformer, only if they can iron out a couple more annoying bugs/glitches, and maybe tweak the combo system to allow a bit more time to stand on the ground. I don't care too much about the sluggish boss fights or the rigid/static feeling of cutscenes, because overall they take up very little time (this isn't a diamond-in-the-rough situation). Most of my time was spent finding random trinkets, helping the people of Macaroon, chucking my yo-yo in every nook and cranny, and most importantly, zooming around everywhere. I've been itching for another good 3d platformer since A Hat in Time and Mario Odyssey, and this one easily takes the cake. I hope this game, as well as some recent 2d platformers, inspires more developers to make their own innovative or stylistic spin on the genre.
