It feels like it was written in stone that this game was going to be good given that this was made by the same people who made pony island and like pony island, the game feels like an epic pastische of the same game. Whereas pony island seemed thematically about the metaphorical stages of developing a game and how this vision adapts and changes, inscyption feels thematically about the way different people approach the same game. TLDR its very good and worth the money. Below i'll put more thoughts on it for those that care.

Compared to Pony island (since the games seem to be related in the same way that supergiant's Bastion and transistor are), the game sags a bit past the first stage (the first stage being basically everything you see in the trailer). I think this is because the mechanics introduced in later stages don't sufficiently build upon the game for the time you put in. It incorporates some of the elements from the 1rst stage into the 2nd and third, but the parts that the game has to leave behind are a bit of a problem. The reason why i bring this up is because this is somthing pony island actually did pretty well. Everything established in the first bit of the game comes back to make the finale really epic.

in terms of the gameplay, there are aspects that i find really amazing but also somewhat broken in other areas. The way life works in the game is genius allowing you to use the damage you take as a resource to bide time. At the same time, i also got a totem combination that made my base unit ridiculously overpowered allowing me to steamroll the game in one spot.

Its a little sad that the devs kind of dropped the ball past the first bit of the game which prevents the experience from being rounded off but what is here is still worth the money and still worth supporting the devs over.

what becomes apparent with this game's release (or has become if you managed to get this game earlier) is the way in which the ace attorney vs professor layton series seemed to have influenced alot of the concepts that have been presented in this game more so than the later AA games such as spirit of justice. Interacting and observing multiple juror testimonies being a pretty observable example. Even the music seems to have taken influence from this title. This is a bunch of words to basically say that A: despite originally coming out in like 2015 it still manages to be better than the latest ace attorney franchise (at the time of this review its spirit of justice) and B: it feels like this game was a few more years in the making than originally planned.

These 2 games are amazing and have so many features that put them a cut above most of the other games.

I think when people look to a spiritual successor for left 4 dead 2 they often look to games that improve upon the base l4d2 experience rather than attempt to reinvent it in a way that actively progressess the ideas and mechanics of it. Its what makes this game so amazing as if it adds the steam workshop it truly may become the lone successor to l4d2. And its not just the big similarities like gunplay and horde feel, its the little things too. The social area (the ingame hub that you visit missions) is a great conceptual extension of the modded vocalizers in l4d2 as now not only can you interact with players of all nationalities pretty accurately (with this game's equivalent of vocalizers, the laser pointer) you can play games with them, dance and buy beers. I specifically mention the social aspect of this game namely because these are the smaller touches in left 4 dead 2 that Deep rock galactic improves upon that make it a true spiritual sucessor to left 4 dead 2. It cost a decent amount because its worth a decent amount.

TLDR this game is just as accessible and just as fun as minecraft and the true spiritual sucessor to left 4 dead 2 and its really fun.

edit: i have 479 hours on this game and its still fun. If not for the game, definitely because your friend has it in his library.

If you like the Stanley parable and portal, then this game is the closest thing to a synthesis of those to games as you could possibly get. The puzzle solving is reminiscent of portal and the meta nature is similar to that of the stanley parable (though probably closer in themes to the beginner's guide). Comparisons aside, this game is such a fantastically holistic experience in that its all about perspective.
From themes to gameplay. Its legitamately amazing how sharp and astute the gameplay design is at its high points almost feeling like it was predicting any idea i would come up with to subvert my perceptions. The only issue i had was that some puzzles were a little to esoteric at times, but i wouldnt change that for the world if it meant feeling like the smartest person in the world for figuring out others.

Easily one of the best things to happen in 2020 and a very strong recommend in general (a virtual must have if you like the aforementioned games). Also quite relevant for the year of this review.

Edit: The negative criticisms definitely have more validity than in other games and i can definitely understand how someone would not like this game. My experience did have a few moments where i was briefly stumped due to slightly janky mechanics and very trial and error based puzzling. I would probably recommend having a guide on hand if you get super stumped for some puzzles. This game for me had the most positive experience when i got into a flow of solving puzzles and observing how the main mechanics of the game panned out as i played.

This game is a mess but it is smart. Also its probably the only game where *licks blade* is an option.

Wanted to just put out a review to address why this game has mixed reviews compared to positive. Against promises, tripwire essentially released 2 overpriced dlc weapons. My thoughts are kinda eh on it. Mainly because while both weapons are technically different, mechanically they are really close to reskins. Not sure if my apathy is because i've somewhat lost interest in the game, or because the update that released these weapons also released 3 new weapons (i.e 1 more than the last 2 updates). All of which are ironically better than the dlc ones. I'd say to anyone wanting to purchase the game now, just judge it as is now and not consider the game for what may come to it. It still fun and the devs are competent, but obviously, they may not have made the best descision.

(Side note: feel like they may be prepping for f2p if they are making dlc weapons, idk just got off starting destiny, would make sense since the game has a skin economy and reconcile the issue of not giving paid players content.)

Edit 2: This may seem like a small point but its one that changes the recommendation of the game to a neutral rating (ignore the thumbs up) in that i got a skin for dlc weapon meaning i cant use it. I know this is more so negligence from the Kf2 team but still. Seriously just make this game f2p already.

One of the things that most people have done on the internet is the game of trying to use wiki in order to essentially find a random page from another one. Alternatively simply just going down the rabbit hole to see where that leads you. The experience of this is essentially what Hypnospace provides, but adding on a bunch of satisfying elements that make the game great.

1: the justice element. The Fact that you can mark and then flag content is a very satisfying activity and essentially works as the payoff to finally getting to a page. Even though what you mark generally has to be somewhat relevant to whatever case you are doing (you cant just report somthing shady) the feeling is great.

2: Pre 2000s tone. This game has a great tone and character to it which embodies the spirit of an emerging alternate version of the internet. The fact that the game runs like an old computer is also fantastic.

This game thankfully isnt just a concept, its a story with a unique medium.

having played this game more than almost any other game in my steam library i can say that TF2 has had a long history. So much so that this game has gone through several generations of youtubers throughout its runtime (in that several lots of youtubers have come in and out of playing this game). Its probably more attention than most games and is only just being overaken by Fortnite. I think that despite it having hit its peak, the game is still both decently popular and worth getting (if you havn't). Its a game with a unique legacy which is proudly shown among the tonnes of maps still available to play made by the community.

Hell my usernames have mostly been tf2 references

I like this game. Idk why the reviews for this are mixed (i think it has something to do with the multiplayer). But even without the multiplayer, i love this game. Its a really solid tower defence game to get lost in at a pretty great base price in this economy.

Additionally, the ships u can choose between have a great variety between how they mix up the game play.

If i had to choose a description for it, its quaint. I would love a mobile version of this game, because id be so fitting, but it stands up as a pc game just as well.
