The only game where you can 1up somebody that just nuked you, by smashing an entire celestial body into their base.

I've played a lot of RTS games over the years: from Starcraft, to Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth, to Command and Conquer and everything in between. Planetary Annihilation is easily in my top 5. I absolutely love the scale of the game: managing armies on land, sea, air and space on multiple planets at once. And how you can build absolutely MASSIVE armies. All of which can be overwhelming at first, but you get used to it with practice. This game gives you so many ways to obliterate your enemies.

The online is pretty dead, but the game is an absolute blast with a couple friends, or in single-player too! I purchased the original Planetary Annihilation back when it was $79.99 and still in beta. It wasn't at all worth that price back then, but I had high hopes for it. It's at a much better price point now, though. The main con for me is the camera is a little buggy sometimes. I'll try to zoom in or out of my base, then all of sudden my camera teleports to the other side of the planet. It can be quite disorienting. Lastly, I must mention that the microtransactions are just dumb. Charging $4.99+ for a SINGLE new commander skin in the Armory is absolutely ridiculous. $4.99 should get you an entire set. They're purely cosmetic and give zero advantage, don't waste your money there.

Other than the unnecessary micro-transaction and buggy camera, Planetary Annihilation is a great RTS that deserves your attention.
