TL:DR - It's fun right now so if it looks good to you and have the spare cash, there is no time like the present.

Just look at the playtime people have in steam reviews, both negative and positive. It isn't flawless and has its issues like every other game, but it is fun to play and the gameplay is different enough from other asym games to make it stand out. It's clear to me people want this game to succeed.

I personally haven't seen the "rampant cheating" that others are talking about. Maybe it's taking place at higher ranks (I am level 19 atm) the game does seem to prefer to match you with players of similar rank so it isn't level 0 characters going against maxed out characters.

Cheating is always going to be a thing in PvP games, this game atm doesn't seem any worse than other PvP games (It's certainly better than something like CoD Warzone) They are working on improving the anti-cheat with today's update so here's hoping they can keep it manageable

Beware of the steep learning curve, particularly on victim/survivor side. You're gonna lose, just try to learn something every match and piece by piece you'll see yourself improving.
