Dragon Age: The Veilguard is by no means a perfect game, HOWEVER:

Is the combat super fun? ☑ yes
Are there lovable characters? ☑ yes
Are the environments gorgeous? ☑ yes
Is Assan the best thing about the game? ☑ absolutely
Can you pet Assan? ☑ yes
Can you play Rock, Paper, Scissors with Manfred, the friendly skeleton? ☑ yes

The thing is, Veilguard is a great introductory game for people who never played Dragon Age before but might want to try it and the 3 previous games seem too much of an investment. Veilguard is a great gateway drug for people who like fantasy RPGs.

For the fans of the series, it might be disappointing. The writing is not as good as previous titles, and feels very rush in some parts, or even awkward. Rook is a blank slate unlike all the other protagonists and does not seem to have a strong personalities, so many of their jokes/comments fall flat. It is very clear that losing so many people that worked on the series before was a hit to the story of the game.

But Veilguard does not deserve the hate it received. It's fun and a great starting point for all kind of art, writing, and headcanoning!

(TIP: Highly recommend a Mourn Watch background since it feels like they did the most work on that one. Also combine this with an Emmrich romance and you'll have a lovely time.)

Bromance is alive and well in this game. A beautiful story of brotherhood, coming of age, accepting the responsibilities of one's title, and the importance of friendship and loyalty. A Final Fantasy for first timers and fans, indeed.

The ending of the base game is quite meh after playing through Talion's story for two whole games and the timeline of the base game and DLCs is quite wonky, but it's an enjoyable, fun experience.

Time is not accurate, I also played it offline for like 2 days.
It is very cute! It's a clear, obvious improvement from My Time at Portia and I am absolutely loving my time playing it. I am surprised there is still content to do. The customisation of your yard/house is really impressive!! And I really enjoy how they added this feature for every character to inform you how much content is available at the moment. It's really fun! Can't wait for the full version!
