Researching zombies... one head-shot at a time.

Following the surrender of Nazi Germany in 1945, the United States sought to secure German scientists from the clutches of the Soviet Union through what became known as Project Paperclip. As a result, prominent scientific figures such as Otto Hanh, Herbert Gerstner, Hubertus Strughold, Wernher von Braun, among others, came to work for the United States. However, the Soviet Union were able to obtain a number of scientists as well, including those who had supervised and/or conducted human experiments at Dachou and Auschwitz. More alarming were the unconfirmed reports regarding scientists of Imperial Japan’s Unit 731.

In the height of the Cold War in the 1950s, the President held a series of meetings with the DoD, CIA, FBI, NSA, CDC, and several civilian advisers to address the issue of a potential Soviet Union biological attack. A wide range of scenarios were explored. Dr. Thomas Aquinas, head of research at the U.S. branch of U.K.-based Horzine Biotech and adjunct lecturer at Columbia University at the time, pointed out the “improbable, but not impossible, threat of the Soviet Union using genetically-altered humans as biological warfare vectors.” On January 11, 1961, Project Lazarus was initiated.

Today, Project Lazarus is a federally- as well as privately-funded non-partisan, non-profit agency based in New Jersey that advocates the use of environmentally-friendly alternatives to road salts for deicing roads. Located in a former military bunker at the heart of the Pine Barrens, the Project Lazarus is a spacious and secure home and headquarters for the top scientific and military personnel of the country as well as several independent and licensed contractors in their efforts to combat irresponsible road deicing practices. In addition, Project Lazarus have branch offices all over the country and sends survey teams to locations all over the world.

Our objectives are to 1) measure the impact of chloride salts used in deicing roads on watersheds and report the findings to the EPA and relevant agencies, 2) educate the public about the negative environmental effects of using road salts such as sodium chloride, calcium chloride, potassium chloride and magnesium chloride, 3) promote the usage of environmentally-friendly alternatives such as potassium acetate and calcium magnesium acetate, and 4) research high-level bio-terror threats that may occur throughout the world, specifically those entailing mutants, zombies, and such thereof.
