ABOUT Pug_Group

For CS 1.6 players who want to have a place to find pugs/scrims, ringers and continue the competitive spirit of CS 1.6

Greetings,

If you've been formally invited to this group, you probably have a competitive edge and you'd like to explore it. As we are all well aware, seriously competitive CS 1.6 is dead and buried. Despite its burial, however, there are a select few of us who continue to play CS 1.6 for the purposes of enjoyment and indulging our competitive nature. This group caters specifically to that group and most players in the group have most likely played in CAL/CEVO/ESEA at some point during their playing career. The goal of this group is to conduct scrims/pugs, and generally have fun in a competitive manner.

I'm going to try to keep this group as clean as possible, so that means no hacking/scripting. If you suspect someone is cheating, talk to me about it when I'm on and we'll get to the bottom of it. Generally, people who are decent can identify others who are decent/not cheating. Let's keep that going. This needs to be community moderated if we want it to be successful and not overrun with cheaters.

All players invited don't need to have "stats," either. If you're invited, it's because I think you're funny/cool/nice with the AWP/competitive. You'd be a good addition to the group. This extends to other members, as well; if you want, you can invite friends. That being said, this isn't a "pub" group either -- you'll find that many of the players are genuinely competitive CS players and, as such, play with an edge to their game. Going 120-1 in a pub is different than consistently fragging in a scrim, so be mindful of that.

Most players invited to the group are American and our primary language is English. Nonetheless, Spanish speakers are welcome as long as they don't become frustrated with the language barrier.

If this group becomes large enough, I'd like to conduct "official" scrims/matches between pug teams during certain weekends and hold a ranking, similarly to CAL/ESEA/CEVO. Of course, this is mostly fantastical in nature, but I'd be open to exploring it sometime later on.

We're all semi-professionals/professionals in our real lives, either going to school or working jobs to pay our bills. I'm personally a graduate student, studying for my Ph.D. in MechE, and I work part-time as an Adjunct Mathematics Instructor. I strive to be a mature adult and I hope that members of this group are relatively mature, as well.

My nickname in-game is htriber, but you can refer to me as Dave. I'm comfortable with any designation.

Above all else, please treat one another with courtesy and respect. We're not teenagers anymore; no one is a "kid" or a "scrub." Many of us have our diplomas, some of us our undergraduate degrees and a few have graduate degrees -- I'm in the latter group. Joking is to be expected and the occasional ♥♥♥♥ talking is fine, but let's be reasonable here. It's a game, no one is making money and we're all striving to have fun.

Under "Announcements," you'll find some pug/scrim servers.

Take care,
Dave

killd0zer,

Generally speaking, that's my goal for the future of this group. If we can have an effect on the CS 1.6 community and the members of this group can begin forming teams, we can start having mini-tournaments or a bracket-style mini-league similarly to CAL/CEVO/ESEA. Many of the members in this group have played with/against one another occasionally, so perhaps they can bounce off of that. It generally depends.

Let's see how the group grows organically. I'd say that if teams do indeed begin forming within the group, then I'd want an announcement about team formations. Something similar to, "htriber started a team, recruiting peeps from pug group!" or "killd0zer started team, need one more member! would prefer pug group!"

I'd like if all team members can join this group, even if they're not original members. I trust our members to make that decision.

Thanks for the comment!
Dave

Even though the competitive scene of quake 3 is pretty dead. People still hold small online tournaments for graphics cards/mice etc. For players in different ELO brackets. Bad player tournament sand good player tournaments.. Would be cool to get the cs 1.6 community back together (everyone hates each other which is common in team play games unlike 1v1s like quake and broodwar) and start having teams vs teams instead of just pugs
