I backed the game on Kickstarter. Does that not give me early access or do I have to wait for official release to receive my copy? Seems silly since it's the same price on here for EA as it is to back it on Kickstarter.

Indeed it is. They are in Early Access now. If you buy the game in EA, you get access to the closed beta.
