Make sure you don't sleep on Obscure! One of the few multiplayer fixed multicam games (what a mouthful), this PS2 games still looks incredible today and has an amazing choral score (and originally featured a track by contemporary artists Sum 41, removed from the Steam version). Interestingly, you don't lose the game until all your plucky students have been cut down (but you do lose that student's unique skill!). It's also worth noting that Obscure did the weaken-enemy-with-light-then-finish-off thing years before Alan Wake moaned his way on screen. Can't fully recommend the second game, though - those characters annoyed the hell out of me...

Covert Ops: Nuclear Dawn / Chase the Express is one of two games on the PS1 that tried to combine Metal Gear Solid with Resident Evil and, for my money, this is the one that comes closest to succeeding. Mash 24 with the setting of the first Mission Impossible and the second Under Siege and it apparently results in a technically intriguing, surprisingly charming thriller...!

An occasional newsletter highlighting fixed camera games!

Hey gang!

It's too hard to find fixed camera games on Steam. A good way to give Fixed Cam games a stronger presence on the store is to apply a 'Fixed Camera' user-defined tag to existing games in the Steam Library.

If enough of us do this, these will become standard tags on Steam and these games will be searchable by those tags (and possibly through more relevant recommendations at the bottom of the store pages, eg. 'More like this...').

I assume most reading this know how to apply user-defined tags, but in case this is new to you, I've put together a handy-dandy guide, which you can find here[imgur.com].

Only you can make Valve/Steam take a different view on this issue!

Fair cop, this is quite a recent game (1st June 2023) to have earned the term 'classic' - but I think it'll only take a few minutes exploring this beautifully designed and rendered puzzle house for it to worm it's way into your fixed multicam affections. Homebody combines expertly executed stylised graphics with a special blend of surreal terror and heartfelt troubles and sadness. Sure at the start you might want just another 30 seconds to work out this plumbing conundrum before the homicidal lunatic redecorates the room with your insides - but by the end, you'll just feel more grateful for the good friends you have in your life. Give 'em a call - that connection's important.

So, Stoibs pointed this out to me... Did you ever notice the amount of fixed multicam games with 'Zero' in the name? Project Zero, Phase Zero, HADES Zero, Resident Evil Zero and Ground Zero! It's that darn deep state again - time to get out the red twine and the conspiracy board!

I'm vaguely considering doing a post highlighting some fixed multicam games on discount during the Steam Summer Sale - and sourcing those games from our community! So if you want to suggest a stone-cold classic AND a lesser-known fixed cam marvel, drop 'em in the comments. If I get enough for a 10-game post, I'll send it out...! (And don't bother suggesting Alone in the Dark, I'm all over that one)
