Anyone keen for a scrimjob?

Classic Scrims is a group dedicated to multiplaying the games of yore. ♥♥♥♥, we even play old DOS games that aren't network capable. Anyone up for time trials on Commander Keen IV: The Secret of the Oracle? Or perhaps Wolfenstein 3D is more your vocation?

As titularly implied, we play any game that is a ‘classic’ – any game that has well and truly made its mark in pixel history. Most of these are currently not available via Steam but still include the multiplayer component required to successfully host/join on modern machines.

GAME RANGER --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We use a program called ‘GameRanger’, which acts as a client for establishing connections between multiple users worldwide on games that are no longer hosted due to their age. Simply install the game you want to play and GameRanger will find it and begin listing created games compatible with your specific version. This service is free and not too dissimilar to Steam. It has both ‘Friends’ and ‘Games’ lists, as well as a general community section.

Several classics are on our list at the moment, with the view of expanding as more members join. Currently GameRanger finds compatibility with over 600 abandoned games. Of these, we play:

> Age of Empires II: The Conquerors (v1.0c)
> Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Restoration of Erathia (v1.4)
> Machines: Wired for War (v1.15)
> StarCraft: Brood War (v1.16.1)
> Defence of the Ancients: Allstars (v6.65)
> Worms Armageddon (v3.0)

We play at least two games every day with a skill level ranging from beginner to average. The majority of these are private games, although we also play the occasional pub game versing rands. Those interested in any of the afore-listed games are encouraged to join this group. I'll be copping a scrimjob from each of you shortly.

COMPATIBILITY --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Both Windows Vista and Windows 7 (x86 / x64) are capable of running the games listed. The only documented error has been a colour glitch. If you experience this in any game, fix it by either alt-tabbing (Vista) or disabling Explorer (7).
