"Vive L'Empereur"

Napoleon Bonaparte was born on August 15, 1769 in Ajaccio on the Mediterranean island of Corsica, the son of Carlo and Letizia Bonaparte. Through his military exploits and his ruthless efficiency, Napoleon rose from obscurity to become Napoleon I, Empereur des Francais (Emperor of the French). He is both a historical figure and a legend—and it is sometimes difficult to separate the two. The events of his life fired the imaginations of poets, other great commanders, and other nations who envied and admired his success.
Napoleon decided on a military career when he was a child, winning a scholarship to a French military academy at age 14. His meteoric rise shocked not only France but all of Europe, and his military conquests threatened the stability of the world.
Napoleon had many military successes before his downfall in the battle of Waterloo. Many say the place he was held captive, after his many defeats and victories was where he was purposely assasinated by his British enemies. What was really remarkable was how after the Invasion of Russia, his marshals decided to mutiny. The leader of this Mutiny, Michel Ney confronted Napoleon and had no choice besides adbicating. The allies of the Coliation thought that Napoleon was the main obstacle between peace in Europe so they formed the Treaty of Fontainebleau where they exiled Napoleon to the island of Elba. Napoleon was a very clever leader and commander that he formed his own small army and navy on that island. He then escaped the island to the French mainland. The 5th Regiment was sent to stop him but surprisingly, he went to face them alone on his horse and he called out to the soldiers he had previously lead, "Here I am, kill your emperor if you wish." The soldiers shouted back,
"Vive L'Empereur!" After he gathered his forces in France, he readied for war against the coliations. The period known as Hundred Days and another war with the coliations of Great Britain, Prussia, Austria, Russia, Sweden, Spain, and Portugal has begun. After several French victories, The Battle of Waterloo began. The allied forces led by Generals Wellington and Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher withstood repeated French attacks before they pushed Napoleon's force back where the Prussian reinforcements attacked Napoleon's right flank. The battle was over, the coalation pushed into Paris and restored Louis XVII to the French Throne. As for Napoleon, he was exiled off to the island of Saint Helena. After his death he was sent back to France for the proper burial place in his will.
