Augustus here. I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and are having a nice holiday, and enjoying your time off of work or school. I would like to apologize for my extended absence. I have been very busy the past two weeks with school, and the past several days spending time with family.

I just wanted to make a quick announcement to let you all know that there is a discussion forum for Roman Character Applications. During the time of the URE, this was used to give a person's roleplay character a detailed history, and background in attempt to flesh out the roleplay, in addition serving as a place for storing member information.

It would be nice to see the forum filled with the character apps of all the Roleplayers of the past, so if you have not already, fill out your character application to preserve you place in the URE's history.

Avatars within the URE have always been a big part of the group and it’s Roleplay. Over the years we have cycled through a fair amount of avatars all representing a different period in our history.

The Original:http://steamproxy.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=572900738&fileuploadsuccess=1 Made by my friend Titus Flavius at the founding of the original URE, this was the original group avatar. Containing several different layers it allowed for a nice variety of customization from member to member. It was used during the time I, Augustus Caesar ruled Rome as Emperor.

The Second Generation:http://steamproxy.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=572902984&fileuploadsuccess=1 This avatar was made by my friend Celticus and put into place at the start of the second generation of the URE. After the first Rick attack, the group was rebuilt and remade. It was during this time the group reached 1,500 total members averaging about 30 active members day to day. It was during this age the group was transformed into a Roman Republic.

The Golden Age: http://steamproxy.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=572905246&fileuploadsuccess=1 The Purple Imperial Avatar was put into use at the height of the URE's glory during what many of the old guards called the "golden age." During this time, the group growing quickly eventually reaching well over 2,000 members, with about 45 plus active members day to day. It is during these days political intrigue was everywhere in the Republic, activity was high, and the roleplay was a blast.

This Memorabilia Avatar is meant to serve as a reminder to all the good times you within the URE no matter what generation you roleplayed in.

I have noticed that many people still wear the Purple Avatar so I figured there would be interest in this one. I am extremely willing to make anyone an avatar so if you would like your URE Memorabilia Avatar simply post a link to the picture you would like to have on your avatar in the comments and I will do my best to get you it in a timely manner.

I just would like to take a minute to give a special thank you to all of you have roleplayed with us at one point or another throughout the URE's history. We have always been a group about the people, and without all of you guys, the great moments just simply wouldn't have been possible.

I would like to apologize for my absence and the silence over the last few days. All I can say is life called. After reading all of your comments on my prior announcement, and carefully considering all of the possible options for The United Roman Empire I have made a decision.

The United Roman Empire will be retired from activity until further notice. My reasoning behind this is simply that the majority of the group's leaders both past and present no longer have the time to dedicate to the running and upkeep of this group as a Roleplay. I can tell you first hand that is a ton of work to keep things orderly, fun, and moving. At the URE's height I was easily spending an hour a day on group related activities.

I know my decision to shut this group down may sadden some of you, and I apologize to any new comers that never got to experience the URE at its height. I simply do not have the time to operate it any longer and have not noticed anyone that I believe can truly reboot the group.


I believe I can speak for the majority of you here, that in the time you shared with the URE, you had a blast Roleplaying in this group, as I know I did. Some of the memories I have here will undoubtedly stay with me in the rest of my time on Steam.


What I mean by "honorary restoration" is this. I would like to rebuild the group in the sense of getting back some of the old time members, having everyone modded and then electing honorary Consuls and creating an honorary Senate in addition to the various other positions.

I would also like to restore some of our old discussions and allow people to make character apps that they used during their time Roleplaying here. I feel this would be a fitting end to preserve the Legacy of The United Roman Empire.

Several years ago during the scene of chaos surrounding Roman Roleplay, I founded The United Roman Empire, known as the URE, with the hope that it would become the most active Roman Group in the Roleplay Community. Over time the group grew under the leadership of myself and various others until it became the main Roman Roleplay with its members hailing from both TRE's, TLR, and even SPQR.

As the group continued to thrive, it also began to grow. At 500 members the group was taken over by RickMyDick, but with the help of my friend Celticus, ownership was taken back and the group restored. This time we came back stronger, reaching 1,000 members, but not a day sooner we were again spammed loosing every single member. This time we built a new Rome through the hard work of its members, we reached 2,000 reaching our the peak in activity with over 40 active Romans.

Though, those days have come and gone and the Rome we see now is a shadow of its former self. The URE "Old Guard" is gone with the wind and the new members and owners were unable to keep the group alive due to the lack of recruits.

Because of this lack of activity, I feel that it may be time to lay the group to rest once and for all. I will not rush into any hasty decisions, but I want to hear everyone's thoughts, new to the group and old.
