Living in a cramped, rundown apartment, Jason's family is constantly faced with difficult choices. Rent, bills, and the basic necessities of life always seem to take priority over anything else. His parents, who work multiple jobs, still struggle to make ends meet, and Jason often watches as
they sacrifice their own well-being to ensure that he and his siblings are fed and clothed. The small joys of life, like going out to eat or celebrating a birthday with presents, are foreign to him. Instead, Jason has grown accustomed to making do with what little he has, often finding ways to make ends meet with creative solutions—whether it's reusing old clothes, patching up worn-out shoes, or taking on small jobs after school to help contribute to the household.
At school, Jason feels the sting of poverty every day. While other students talk about their vacations or the latest tech gadgets, Jason quietly retreats, unable to join in the conversations.
