The Berbers (in Berber: pl Imaziɣen, sg Amaziɣ) are an autochthonous ethnic group of North Africa. Known in ancient times under the name of Libyans, the Berbers have borne different names throughout history, such as Mazices, Moors, Numidians, Gétules or even Garamantes. They are distributed in an area extending from the Atlantic Ocean to the oasis of Siwa in Egypt, and from the Mediterranean Sea to the ♥♥♥♥♥ River in West Africa. Historically, they spoke Berber languages, classified in the Berber branch of the Afro-Asian family.
