Guild Wars 2: Excelsior! Chat Room Group (OOG)

This is a workaround until Arena-Net gets off its collective duffus and adds the feature for custom chat channels. This is a group to allow us all to chat in-game across our various guilds and shards in Guild Wars 2.

This is considered an OOG chat room ie. don't RP directly in here. If you'd like to coordinate an RP get-together, that's cool, but this chat room is specfically designed to be able to talk to our peeps in a friendly space.

The One Rule of the Group: Don't Be A ♥♥♥♥

Regarding friend inviting, so long as they can follow The One Rule™, there shouldn't be any issues. If there becomes a lot of heavy instance/faction/alliance/whatever talk later down the line in the group, we might put a vote to split off a new group for that sort of thing so it doesn't overwhelm the original "Shoot the ♥♥♥♥" purpose of this group.

1. Click on the "Games" tab at the top of your Steam interface
2. Click on "Add Non-Steam Game"
3. Select Guild Wars 2 from the list
4. Launch GW2 via Steam


1. Click on "Library"
2. Scroll down your list to find Guild Wars 2
3. Right click on GW2 and select "Create Desktop Shortcut"

A new shortcut will be added to your desktop, however; it'll use a blank default icon. The shortcut will run just fine, but if you'd like to give it a themed icon follow to step 4.

4. Right click on the desktop icon and select "Properties"
5. Go to the "Web Document" tab and select "Change Icon..."
6. Click on the "Browse" button and locate the file folder that contains your GW2 game data (NOTE: It is a different folder than where it saves your screenshots in My Documents)
7. Select "gw2.exe"
8. This will give you two icon images to choose from. Click on Apply to set your icon changes.

As a recommendation, you might want to change the title of your desktop shortcut so you can keep track of your non steam and steam versions of GW2.

1. Shift+Tab will bring up the Steam Interface Overlay
2. On the bottom right of the overlay will be your avatar - click on "View Friends List"
3. There's a tab for Friends and a tab for Groups. To join the GW2-Excelsior chat room, click on the down arrow by this group's name and click on "Join Group Chat Room" *You may have to restart Steam in order for the group to register on your group list*
